Notable Hutts in Star Wars History

There have been many Hutts in Star Wars, some more memorable than others. Today we are continuing our celebration of Hutt Week by taking a look at some of the notable Hutts in Star Wars (other than Jabba).

Queen Jool

Queen Jool is not your average Hutt. She runs two cantinas, is an information broker, and a member of the Hutt Grand Council. She’s also the hottest Hutt ever. What? In denial? Just look at Cade Skywalker. Cade has his choice of women in the Legacy comics. From super hot Zeltrons to Imperial Knight babes. And yet this guy who can have his choice of girls hits up on Queen Jool.

Enough about Jool’s beauty…did you know her left eye is actually a cybernetic implant hooked up to cameras in her cantina? Or that she lived in a swamp under her bar?

Hmm, but Jool isn’t the only strange Hutt in the galaxy…

Beldorion

Do you remember Beldorion? He was that Hutt in Planet of Twilight. The one with the LIGHTSABER! Why would a Hutt have a lightsaber? Well, because Beldorian isn’t just a Hutt with a lightsaber, he’s a Jedi Knight. He’s the only Hutt Jedi in the Expanded Universe.

Alas Beldorion fell to the dark side. He got to rule a planet for a while, but then Leia killed him. Mark another tally on Leia’s kill list for Hutts. Fun fact: Beldorian’s lightsaber was purple…five years before Mr. Windu.

Zorba Desilijic Tiure

Jabba is without a doubt the most recognizable Hutt in Star Wars. He was in the films, the books, the comics, the TV show. Jabba even got a kid in The Clone Wars. But did you know he had a dad?

That’s right: whose your daddy.

Zorba’s huttling went on to become a powerful criminal overlord. It was a great accomplishment for any Hutt. Even more epic are those dreads. Check out that beard! Zorba has the distinct honor of being one of the few Hutts with hair.

At least Leia didn’t kill…well…maybe. As of yet, there really isn’t a canonical death for Zorba. He disappeared into obscurity. Some day we might see the great hairy Hutt again. Someday.

Blotus the Hutt

Blotus was the first Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic to be a Hutt. He served in between 9,000 and 8,000 BBY and his reign as chancellor lasted 275 years. Surprisingly he left a legacy worth remembering. What little we know of his life breaks the stereotype of his species. He lowered taxes and brought prosperity to the galaxy. He lived 912 years and died peacefully. When people recall the best chancellors of the Republic, Blotus is usually at the top of the list.

Durga Besadii Tai

Durga the Hutt is worth remembering because he’s one of the rare Hutts to wield a lightsaber. It just so happens his lightsaber was several kilometers long and could destroy a planet. Like all Hutts, he dreamed big. He also died a spectacular death…when his lightsaber blew up on him. Lesson of the Day: When building a Darksaber superweapon, make sure to employ skilled labor who know what they’re doing.

Ziro Desilijic Tiure

“Ziro was just about a total fail except that he managed to achieve the near impossible: he united the fandom in almost universal hatred for his character. And if you know anything about Star Wars fans, that is a feat of total epicness.” -Synlah

Whether hated or loved, Ziro certainly stood out from other Hutts with his strange voice and his striking yellow tattoos and purple skin. He was also one of Jabba the Hutt’s uncles. He met his end at the hands of Sy Snootles, his starcrossed lover. She would later go on to sing for Jabba the Hutt. Perhaps he was fond of her for killing off a despised uncle.

Boonta Hestilic Shad’ruu

The Hutt holiday Boonta’s Eve is named after the exalted Boonta the Hutt. He was the architect of the Hutts’ defenses and assaults against Xim the Despot. The combination of Boonta and Kossak the Hutt enabled the Hutts to triumph against Xim. His recapture of the planet Ko Vari also led to the planet being renamed Boonta in his honor.

Kossak Inijic Ar’durv

His High Exaltedness Kossak, Devourer of Despots, the greatest Hutt in history, is famous for having defeated Xim the Despot back in 25,100 BBY. It was under his rule that the Treaty of Vontor was formed enslaving uniting the Klatoonians, Nikto, and Vodran to the Hutts. Thanks to him, the Hutts have an endless supply of devoted slaves followers…at least they did until the events of the Fate of the Jedi series. It will be interesting to see how that whole slave revolt thing turns out.
