More Spider-Man, less Loki?

It was announced today that not only will Sony be producing an expected Amazing Spider Man 3, but it will also be moving forward with a 4th film in the recently rebooted series starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Filming is currently underway for the first sequel to the 2012 reboot, with all the main cast members returning. The Amazing Spider Man 2 will also introduce key Spider-Man characters Harry Osborn, Norman Osborn, and Mary-Jane Watson, played by Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, and Shaileene Woodley respectively. Furthermore, Jamie Foxx will play the film’s main antagonist, Electro.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014. The recently announced 3rd and 4th films in the series are due out on June 10th, 2016 and May 4th, 2018.

Also in superhero news, Joss Whedon recently gave an interview promoting his new film, Much Ado About Nothing, in which he touches upon the upcoming Avengers 2. Whedon mentioned that Loki, the first film’s antagonist played by Tom Hiddleston, will not be back in the highly anticipated sequel, at least not in any major capacity at this time. Marvel’s The Avengers 2 will be released on May 1st, 2015.

And the Emmy goes to…The Clone Wars!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars won two Daytime Emmys over the weekend. On Friday, David Tennant won an Emmy for “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for his role as Huyang in Season 5 (episodes ”A Test of Strength”, ”Bound for Rescue” and ”A Necessary Bond”). Yesterday they won an Emmy for “Outstanding Special Class Animated Program” which was accepted by George Lucas, Dave Filoni, Cary Silver and Athena Portilloand, and presented by Carrie Fisher.

Dave also responded on Facebook.

Everyone, as you know tonight Star Wars: The Clone Wars won an Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animation and David Tennant won Friday for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series for his work as Huyang.

These awards represent the hard work of everyone who has worked on The Clone Wars‘ 5 seasons. Whether you worked on Clone Wars in the Bay Area, Singapore, Taipei, or Tokyo we all did this together.

Star Wars fans, your support and dedication to The Clone Wars helped champion our cause year after year. This win is for you as well, thank you from everyone at Lucasfilm, now let’s celebrate!!

It’s good to see the show getting some of the recognition they deserve. Big congratulations to The Clone Wars team!

Episode VII Love Story

According to Contactmusic.com, J.J. Abrams revealed that Star Wars Episode VII will have a central love story.

Of course there are a ton of possibilities. We could see Jaina Solo hooking up with someone new. There could be two completely new characters involved in some Jedi love story. Or, we could see what we’ve all been waiting for, the Leia and Chewbacca forbidden romance. Search your feelings, you know it be true.

‘Star Wars #7′ SDCC Exclusive Cover

Star Wars #7 will be getting an exclusive San Diego Comic Con cover. According to Bleeding Cool, the comic will cost $5.00, have a run 1,000 copies and each person will be allowed to buy ten. The cover is by Rodolfo Migliari and looks like a black and white version of the normal cover.

New Developments at Marvel

As Phase 2 started with the critical and commercially successful Iron Man 3 – and many are anxious for the follow up to Joss Whedon’s The Avengers – Marvel has already begun plans for the eventual Phase 3. Marvel Studios has scheduled two upcoming and as-of-yet untitled Marvel movies for Phase 3, which will join the already announced Ant-Man film.

Furthermore, as production begins on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it has just been announced that actor John C Reilly has been cast as Rhomann Dey, who is reportedly the leader of Nova Corps. Reilly is only the most recent addition to the cast that includes ChrisPratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Glenn Close.

Guardians of the Galaxy is due out August 1st, 2014.

One Step Closer to Star Wars Theme Park

Theme Park Insider is reporting that Disney is moving forward to the planning stage for a Star Wars theme park.

That’s because Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also getting…Star Wars Land. Yep. Multiple sources have told me the long-awaited dream of theme park geeks everywhere is actually happening. Disney’s moving ahead with both Cars Land and Star Wars Land at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.

They go on to speculate where Star Wars Land would be located as well as when it would be completed…2018. If true, it will give fans a new reason to head to Florida.

Star Wars author Michael Reaves has a kickstarter for a project called Blood Kiss. The project has already met it’s $50,000 goal but there’s still time to get in and send a pledge. The Blood Kiss project includes both a film and a graphic novel. Neil Gaiman, Amber Benson and Tom Mandrake are involved and you can check all the info here.

And speaking of kickstarters, there’s one for Time Traveled Tales: A Speculative Fiction Anthology which will include stories by Aaron Allston, Michael A. Comic writer and artist Gabriel Hardman did an interview with CBR covering some general questions about how he got into the business, his favorite comics and even what his work area is like. The interview skips over Star Wars but it still provides some nice insight.
