Art

  • FANgirl Blog has been posting a bunch of awesome, original artwork featuring the characters of Empire and Rebellion: Razor’s Edge. You can check out Caline Metara (the Alderaanian pirate captain), Sian Tesar (Rebel pilot), Kifar Itran (Rebel trooper), and of course Leia.
  • Depending on how deep your pockets are, you can get this one of kind Star Wars Topps card colored by Star Wars artist Jerry Vanderstelt.
  • Star Wars artist Chris Trevas shared some cool stuff on Facebook. First off, he teased a new project he’s working on (Transformers?) and some upcoming Star Wars projects.

Chris Trevas: “Starting work on a non-Star Wars project today. What?! I think it’s been around three years since I worked on something outside that galaxy. I’m having fun painting robots from another franchise…Don’t worry. I already have another Star Wars book that will be starting fairly soon plus a few other SW projects.”

He also posted a hilarious Transformers comic cover. Continue Reading Around the Web…

John Jackson Miller‘s sci-fi serialization Overdraft: The Orion Offensive will come to an end next Tuesday, and so will the $1.99 entry price for the series. On Tuesday the price will jump up for the completed book. Martha Wells‘ book The Death of the Necromancer is now available for free entirely online at Black Gate Magazine. It’s a good book and worth checking out. Martha has a little bit of trivia on the book here, along with links if you’d like to purchase the eBook version or other stories in the series.

R.A. Salvatore fans can pickup a signed copy of The Companions and The Last Threshold via the e-signings page on his website. Bob will be in Columbus, OH on August 14 at the Thurber House for a book signing if you’d like to meet him in person.

Troy Denning‘s Crucible will be out next week and fans in the Roseville, MN area can swing by Barnes & Noble at 7:00 PM on July 9th to get their copies signed. Event details can be found here. Continue Reading Around the Web…

ForceCast: Special CEII Artist Interviews Episode one includes some really nice interviews with Star Wars Celebration Europe II artists Joe Corroney, Hugh Fleming and Lin Zy. All three artists are interviewed by fellow artist Spencer Brinkerhoff III. Definitely worth listening to.

Special CEII Artist Interviews Episode two covers Star Wars artists Brian Rood, Chris Trevas and Jerry Vanderstelt. I’m really enjoying these special interview episodes. Spencer does a great job and I’m looking forward to listening to more.

Full of Sith: The Story of Star Wars Special Release episode is something fans may or may not want to skip. Mike gives a brief intro and then plays The Story of Star Wars (which was a record released in 1977) in its entirety. It’s basically the audio for A New Hope but with narration so listeners can follow along with the action. Definitely cool to have it out there if you ever want to give it a listen. Jerry Vanderstelt is an artist who has a tremendous talent for capturing characters who look as real in a painting as they do on the movie screen. From Star Wars to The Hobbit, he’s worked on some great film franchises and with plenty more to come. We decided to take a moment to ask Jerry some questions about his work and what’s coming next. And don’t forget to check out our galleria post showing off a wide array of Jerry Vanderstelt’s magnificent Star Wars artwork.

Can you describe the process you go through to create one of your paintings?

Jerry Vanderstelt: Each piece has a different process, depending on the needs of the imagery I am shooting for, but typically I begin with a sketch, then once that is established and approved ( either by me or someone like Lucasfilm ), then I move on to the actual art. Star Wars is such a vivid story with some truly mesmerizing visuals. Many artists have attempted to capture the beauty of the galaxy far, far away, but few have done so well as Jerry Vanderstelt.

You may have seen Jerry’s work on Star Wars Topps cards, on the cover of the Star Wars Art: Illustration book, or at Star Wars Celebration. His booth at Star Wars Celebration VI certainly garnered a lot of attention as people marveled at the prints.

So without further ado, behold the splendor of Star Wars as seen by Jerry Vanderstelt. Continue Reading The Star Wars Art of Jerry Vanderstelt…
