Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 120 is the usual fun as they talk Solo, Motley Crue, the new Solo TV spots, and the Empire photos. Then they talk The Force Awakens as they travel back in time to recall the hype, the trailers, the leaked concept art, things that were leaked or revealed that weren’t in the movie, and wild rumors. It’s a fun trip down memory lane.

Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 54 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Jason, and Gabe, Rating: Fun

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode 119 Dan talks with Mark Von Ohlen and Lacey Gilleran about Topps cards, Solo, Denny’s cards, working with actors for autographs, Mark shares a shirtless Adam Driver story, and then they go over comic news, magazine news, and game news. Afterwrds, Dan previews two new podcasts he’ll be on. One is a clip of him, Tom and Cory talking about Solo which is from their new weekly Patreon show, and the other one features Dan and Jim Hill in a podcast called Looking At Lucafilm. The audio quality for Mark and Lacey isn’t the best as Mark has some background noise and Lacey is calling over a phone from the sound of it. Not too bad though.

Podcast Network: Coffee With Kenobi, Runtime: 1 hour 23 minutes, Audio Quality: Good, Editing: Excellent, Host: Dan Z, Rating: Good

Comic Book Noob: The Black Order is hosted by just Regina and Scott, but they do a great job of going over Thanos’ minions, The Black Order. They talk about Corvis Glave, Proxima Midnight, Kull Obsidian/Black Dwarf, Ebony Maw and Super Giant. They go over the powers, personalities and stories for each. Lots of great info. Excellent primer for Infinity War, and, given the timing, I’m making this one my Pick of the Week.

Podcast Network: Assembly of GeeksRuntime: 27 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Scott, and Regina, Rating: Pick of the Week Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 038 focuses on the Witches of Dathomir. They steer clear of Legends as they discuss how the witches were portrayed in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the novel Dark Disciple. They talk about their culture, compare them to the Sith and Jedi, and discuss their relationship with Palpatine. Pretty good episode.

Assembly of Geeks: Sorcerer’s Stone & Classic NES Madness covers the rush to buy the new NES console, they talk Big Bang Theory, the Han Solo movie, Doctor Strange, and some Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which leads to some Harry Potter discussion. Good episode.

Awards Chatter: Robert De Niro episode features a nice interview with the actor as they touch on a bunch of the movies that have stretched across his long career, his thoughts on comedies versus drama, how he ended up working with Scorsese and De Palma, some of the movies he’s had to pass on, and his thoughts on his latest movie The Comedian. Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 017 focuses on Star Wars side characters. They cover Rex, Hondo, Dex, the Crimson Corsair, Maz Kanata, Nien Nunb, Satine, Cad Bane, Asajj Ventress, Hux and Poe. Kind of an interesting episode. They don’t dig too deeply into any one thing, rather they cover the spectrum touching on different elements of the entire saga.

Assembly of Geeks: Evil Captain America and the Raging Fandoms covers news, Tom Hiddleston playing Bond, the video game No Man’s Sky, the high expectations, and the extreme reactions of fans which leads into a discussion of fan reactions in general. They also talk about how Mel Gibson almost played Odin and they have Russ Burlingame on to talk about Captain America being a Hydra agent. Great episode. If you’re not listening to Assembly of Geeks, be sure to give it a try. It’s a great podcast for all your geek fandoms with top notch audio quality, hosts and discussions.

Awards Chatter: Jeff Daniels interview covers the actor’s career as he talks about how he got into acting, his first couple rolls, doing both theater and movies, his comeback with Dumb and Dumber, doing Newsroom, and the play he’s currently doing, Blackbird. He talks about his commitment to the roles and his outlook on his career. It’s a great interview. Definitely give it a listen. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Coffee With Kenobi: Freddie Prinze Jr. Interview features several podcasts as they interviewed Freddie at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. It’s a short interview, but Freddie covered some very intriguing topics from elaborating on Hera and Kanan’s relationship to giving out some details on Kanan and Rex’s relationship. He even gives a surprising yet compelling defense of risque fan art. Definitely worth a listen. The audio starts out a little hard to hear but picks up pretty quickly.

Coffee Chat with Jim Hill and Len Testa is a good one. In this episode Len and Jim dig in deep with some background and history on Disney and their relationship with Star Wars which is an intriguing and entertaining discussion. They talk about the plans Disney has for Star Wars attractions, and even touch on some of the differences between Disneyland and Disney World.

Dead Talks: Episode #37 discusses the episode “Try” with another excellent breakdown of the show and some great character analyzation. While it may be a long wait for next season, there’s plenty of time to go back and catch up on the podcast. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:Movies The Ruin Childhoods” kicks off with Amy’s report from Paleyfest including stuff on Outlander, Flash, Arrow and Tron. As an aside, I’m kinda surprised by how apathetic they were toward Tron: Legacy. Scott hasn’t seen it, Jeff didn’t like it, and Amy is the only one who did enjoy it. I, on the other hand, really enjoyed the new Tron. Beyond that, they also talk about Guardians of the Galaxy and Groot’s aversion to dancing in front of Drax, Agent Carter comments about the future, J.J. Abrams’ comments, the 20 new books for Journey To Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Aftermath, and the female Ghostbuster movie. Their main discussion is on whether movies can ruin your childhood and the use of phrase as of late, which is an interesting topic. They also touch on whether or not we’re heading for a superhero burnout.

Our Very Own Marvel Civil War” starts off with a discussion of Pixels and the recently released trailer before heading into a March Madness tournament discussion for Marvel characters. They start out with a bunch of character, have them face off against each other, then each hosts/guest says which one should win. Whoever gets the most votes proceeds to the next round until there’s an ultimate victor. I have to be honest, it runs a bit long. At first it was neat, but as it dragged on, the discussion struggled to keep my interest. I think it might have worked better as a smaller segment spread out over several episodes rather than doing it all at once.

Fish’s End, Leia’s Story & Supergirl’s Costume” begins with some discussion on the new Avengers trailer, the Groot comic, and thoughts on Gotham and Toy Story 4. Then they have guest Jenna Busch on to talk about Princess Leia #1, and guests Andy Behbakht (The Flash Podcast) and Rebecca Johnson (Supergirl Radio) to talk and speculate about The Flash television show and the upcoming Supergirl show. I didn’t enjoy this episode as much. For starters, Princess Leia #1 was one of the worst Star Wars comics I’ve read in a while so there was a disconnect there. That in turn wasn’t helped too much by their next guests as I haven’t watched The Flash. Wasn’t a whole lot for me to connect with on this episode. However, if you enjoyed Princess Leia #1 and are a fan of The Flash, you’ll probably enjoy it. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review which includes some catching up and a whole lot of The Force Awakens discussions.

Assembly of Geeks:Legends of the Knight and Cancelling Star Wars” covers the usual range of geeky topics. They talk about the Age of Ultron trailer, the Legends of the Knight Batman documentary, Jeff’s thoughts on the title for The Force Awakens, and other tv and movie news.

The Flash Injuries, The Trailer Disappoints & The Force Awakens” features guest host Bobby Blakey who fills in for Jeff as they talk about the Marvel and DC movie announcements, Big Hero Six, Toy Story 4, favorite animated movies, the cut content for Ernie in Ghostbusters, the physics of the Flash, whether movies trailers show too much or too little, their thoughts on The Force Awakens trailer, and the rumor that Luke might be a bad guy.

Marvel Mayhem: Inhumans, Captain Marvel & More” starts with a LEGO discussion then covers The Flash movie, Supergirl, Terminator: Genisys, other Marvel films as well as more off the wall topics like Star Wars crocs and sarlacc bunt cakes. Fun episode with lots of movie discussion. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 175 features another one of their outstanding interviews, this time with Star Wars author Sean Williams. They talk with Sean about some of his last Star Wars books like Fatal Alliance and The Force Unleashed I and II. However, the real fun kicks in when Sean talks about his ideas for books he didn’t get to write. More than just sharing the pitch, Sean actually goes over a bunch of the ideas he and a fellow co-writer had in mind for a book called Jedi Asylum. He also touches on his thoughts for The Force Unleashed III which he is still hoping might happen, and gets into a fun brainstorming session. It’s a very fun episode and one EU fans might get a big kick out of. I certainly enjoyed it a lot.

Coffee with Kenobi: Book Chat with James Luceno focuses on the author’s latest Star Wars book, Tarkin. Now James has been doing the circuit on various podcasts, so you may have heard him interviewed elsewhere. Some of the questions and answers covers some familiar ground–his approach to the character, working with the story group, unveiling Palpatine’s name–but Jim also talks about focusing on the relationships. On one hand, there’s Tarkin’s relationship with Vader, and on the other is his relationship with Palpatine. He also talks about the Emperor and his ultimate goals. Overall it’s a very fluid discussion with good questions and enlightening conversation. If you’ve heard him on other podcasts, this one is still worth checking out.

Episode #26 kicks off with news, The Force Awakens title, Dave Filoni talking about Luminara, theme park news, and the Bearded Trio chimes in with their usual news segment. For the main discussion, they have special guest James Schron from Bombad Radio on to talk about the Jedi Order. They cover the significance of family and passion, bringing balance to the Force, and of course Anakin. What’s really fun is how they weave it altogether with the original trilogy, the prequels, TCW and Star Wars Rebels. It was also very amusing to hear James keep bringing up elements from the EU and the hosts constantly reminding him that none of that is canon. Us EU fans are a diehard bunch, and I have to admit it’s hard to let go of all that lore, especially when chances are high that authors will weave it back in with the upcoming novels. Aside from the Jedi Order, they also discuss lightsabers, the importance of their colors, and who welded what color blade. Ending the show off is some listener feedback, most of it focusing on Padme, which provides a nice examination of her character. Great show. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 173 features special guest David Collins as they talk about his podcast Star Wars Oxygen, whether they’ll cover video game music, Sam Witwer’s lyrics to The Force Unleashed music, how Republic Commando was slightly inspired by Halo, the limitations of memory on video game music, doing the sound work for the amazing Star Wars: The Old Republic trailers, Darth Malgus being voiced by Julian Glover’s son (Julian Glover being General Veers from The Empire Strikes Back) and much more. Whether it’s mixing sound for video games or recounting the old days when Sam Witwer would just hang out, Dave covers a lot of territory and fun stories. Awesome episode.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXXVIII features the hosts of Fangirls Going Rogue Teresa Delgado and Tricia Barr as they join Mike, Bryan and Bobby for some really interesting conversations. Chief among them is their discussion of Star Wars Rebels, it’s placement on DisneyXD, ratings, marketing it as a boy’s show when there’s a significant female audience, they paywall, and whether it can get a season 3 if it stays on DisneyXD. They they have a character discussion on Darth Bane, the creator of the rule of two, as Teresa educates everyone on his background, what he did to make him so memorable, and the books by Drew Karpyshyn. Really nice episode and definitely one to check out.

Episode XC features guest Pablo Hidalgo as they talk about the dark times, how Pablo was introduced to Star Wars, sharing memories of their fandom, and much more. Very cool interview and well worth listening to. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…
