We’re not sure if this qualifies as Yoda’s birthday, but it certainly is Frank Oz’s. Director, actor, voice actor, and puppeteer, Frank Oz is a man of many talents. He has voiced Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Grover, Bert, Cookie Monster, and of course the sage old Jedi Grandmaster Yoda. Little Shop of Horrors, The Score, The Stepford Wives, and Death at a Funeral are also among the fourteen films he’s directed.

Born in Hereford, England, Frank’s parents were both puppeteers, thus truth be told it was in his genes. His mother and father were both Holocaust refugees who actually fought with the Dutch Brigades against the Nazis. The family moved to Oakland, California when he was five years old. Later in life Frank went on to work for Jim Henson’s Muppets in The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, then moving on as a director with his first film The Dark Crystal in 1982 which he directed with Jim Henson. The Muppets Take Manhattan was the first film he directed by himself. His latest project is Monsters University where he’ll once again be doing the voice of Fungus.
