Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 87 touches on the Star Wars costume exhibit in Seattle, troop reports, the Disney Star Wars Half-Marathon (including a mention of the BB-8 cosplayers, ie. Rich and Sarah from Skywalker Through Neverland), and Star Wars Celebration Anaheim news and info.

Assembly of Geeks:Remembering Leonard Nimoy” features guests Lauren Gallaway and Kayla LaFrance as they share comments from Star Trek’s cast and crew on the passing of Leonard Nimoy, they play audio clips from Leonard, reveal the story behind the hand gesture, talk about his music, his books and their favorite Spock moments. It’s a touching farewell to an icon.

Coffee With Kenobi: Rebels Reactions “Rebel Resolve” features guest Darth Taxus as they cover the penultimate episode of Star Wars Rebels season one. It’s a pretty good review of the characters and themes of the episode. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:The Big Bang Theory & Gotham” episode starts out with a discussion on The Big Bang Theory, switches to Jeremiah’s report on Salt Lake Comic Con, and wraps up with a Gotham discussion. Guests John and Derek (The Gotham TV Podcast) join them to talk about hopes for the tv show. All around, a really good episode but…one of the ongoing gags for this episode is a laugh track (which plays into their discussion of The Big Bang Theory and whether or not the show uses one). Unfortunately the laugh track plays through the whole show and is kind of annoying. Each time it cues it, it took me out of the discussion. Definitely could have used less of that.

Bonus Points Lee Arenberg and Lana Parrilla includes two interviews with the aforementioned actors covering their roles in Once Upon A Time. Both interviews were previously released in early episodes so if you’ve heard them already, you can skip this one. Lee Arenberg talks about playing Grumpy and about his other acting work in the Pirates of the Caribbean films and even his own directing work. Lana Parrilla talks about playing different roles (the evil queen and the mayor), balancing that, and finding the characters.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:To Nerdrage or Not to Nerdrage” features special guest host Jen Rhodes (Anomaly Podcast) as they talk about the TMZ Star Wars photos, what they want to see return to Star Wars Episode VII, and what they don’t want to come back. Plus there’s the news that Billy Dee Williams will indeed be doing voicework for Star Wars Rebels. They also cover the news of the two new Star Wars actresses and explore how this reflects on the initial complaints of there not being enough women. Wrapping up their Star Wars coverage is the Leia campaign for more Leia Disney merchandise. Aside from Star Wars, they get into the Ant Man movie and change of writers, Ghostbusters’ theatrical re-release on August 29th, the She-Hulk controversy stirred up by David S. Goyer, and their spoiler free thoughts on X-Men: Days of Future Past. A great episode to listen to for well rounded coverage of all things cool.

Bombad Radio: Episode 151 marks third anniversary. They cover their murky origins, jump into some DC superhero discussion, compare some of the best and worst third movies in a trilogy, and then speak with special guest Diamond Dallas Page. DDP of course talks about wrestling, how he got started, hitting the big time, and also talks about how he got into the whole Yoga thing and the success he’s had with DDP Yoga. I’m a bit of a wrestling fan, so I really dug the interview.

Bombad Radio’s June Free-For-All has an awesome panel of hosts including Dan Zehr and Cory Clubb from Coffee with Kenobi and Juno Eclipse voice actress Nathalie Cox. As can be expected, they get into a lot of fun discussions. They talk (spoiler free) about Godzilla and director Gareth Edwards who is slated for the first Star Wars stand-alone film. They talk about his writer Gary Whitta, about J.J. Abrams and what they expect from him in Star Wars Episode VII considering all the good things he’s done so far. They touch on Cloverfield, Lost, and even lament the lack of The Force Unleashed III. I highly recommend checking this episode out for some great discussion.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 110 is there Sam Witwer interview episode. I didn’t get a chance to listen to is last week, but I was a little surprised at how short it was. Still, it’s always cool to hear Sam talk Star Wars and I had no idea he did the voice for the Emperor in the Star Wars pinball games. Filling out the episode, the hosts talk about their favorite Star Wars characters, Bat Kid, and they have a segment covering Screen Rants what if article on who you would want to compete in the Hunger Games. Interesting to think about 16 year old Luke Skywalker going up against Buffy the Vampire Like, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, and Hit-Girl. Fun discussion as always.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode 8 features special guest Scott Murray from Assembly of Geeks as they cover Return of the Jedi. There’s some fun discussion as they explore why it’s Scott’s favorite Star Wars film, why some fan’s didn’t like it, and why it stands the test of time. This episode also has an interview with Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss, interviewed by Tricia Barr. Erich talks a little about his involvement and work on the Star Wars books, including J.W. Rinzler’s The Making of Return of the Jedi, and drops a very intriguing tidbit about the current line of Star Wars fiction, “on the fiction side, there’s tons of stuff in the works”. It’s worth noting that he was not talking about Star Wars guides as he said right now, they don’t have anything going on.

501stCast: September 2013 Episode is out and covers all the latest 501st Legion news, from mission reports to upcoming events. If you want to catch up with what the Legion is up to, this is the place to go.

ForceCast: Episode 272 includes an interview with LucasBooks senior editor Jennifer Heddle. It starts at the 29 minute mark. Jen talks a little bit about how she became an editor for the Star Wars line and what her job entails. She also let drop that there will be more Star Wars books announced for 2014 in addition to those that have already been revealed, but they aren’t ready to reveal what those books are yet. Definitely good to hear that there’ll be more books.

If you’ve already listened to the Bombad Radio episode of the same audio, you can go ahead and skip this one, otherwise be sure to check it out to hear what David and Peter had to say about their work on the films. RebelForce Radio put together an outstanding episode this week with a Kenobi roundtable featuring Jimmy Mac, special co-host Steve Glosson from Geek Out Loud, Star Wars books editor Erich Schoeneweiss and the voice of Obi-Wan, James Arnold Taylor. They dive into Kenobi while keeping the discussion relatively spoiler free so everyone can listen in and enjoy. As if that wasn’t enough in itself, Jimmy and Jason also interview the audiobook narrator for Kenobi, Jonathan Davis, and James Arnold Taylor does a new meditation excerpt from the book. Really nice coverage all around and a top notch job from RebelForce Radio for putting it together. You can listen in here on Facebook or on Shotglass Digital.

On the latest episode of Jedi Journals, Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss had some interesting things to say about John Jackson Miller’s upcoming book Kenobi. Erich commented that when he heard about the Kenobi book, he wondered if it would cover the issues with Krayt and Qui-Gon. According to Erich, when he got his first look at the outline, both his questions were answered in the first paragraph. Erich went on to say that the sample chapter had him laughing, so expect some of John’s trademark humor.

Interestingly enough, he compared the project to the likes of James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis. Based on his comments, I believe this was in regards to the scope and epic quality of the book. Be sure to check out the podcast to hear everything Erich had to say.

Author Joe Schreiber is having a meeting at Random House today according to his tweet.  On Tuesday we posted a book proposal that is right up Mr. Schreiber’s alley.  As well Erich of Del Rey tweeted this:

This week a fantastic idea for a #StarWars novel got paired with the perfect author to write it. Can’t wait until we can tell you more.

Coincidence?  We think not: the icing on the cake.

What next? Will Chris Trevas be working on a new Star Wars cover? If so, then we can only speculate that it will contain some smooching skeletons.
