Lady Mechanika: The Tablet of Destinies No. 2 takes us back to Africa as the expedition is hijacked by a Direktor Fleisch. With his granddaughter being held hostage, Professor Thomsen has little choice but to cooperate. Back in England, Lady M pays a visit to the university and the secret headquarters of the Rosicrucian Order as she tracks down clues. Elsewhere, Winifred deals with her captors, witnessing both kindness and brutality. It’s an issue packed with beauty and intrigue.
As they say–the plot thickens–and in this case its with some mysterious Germans and the Rosicrucian Order. While this issue introduces us to more of the bad guys, they still remain pretty secretive. On the other hand, we learn the Rosicrucians are interested in knowledge and that Professor Thomsen was a member along with Mr. Strassmann. Continuing the formula of providing answers and keeping secrets, issue #2 keeps things interesting. It’s quite the testament since there is very little action in this issue. Instead, the mystery and the characters are the driving forces.
Bring the story to life, the art team does a magnificent job. The panels are as good looking as ever with close-ups, full profile views, and two page sprawling spreads. The little framing embellishments on the panels continues, as does the superb coloring from Garcia. The visuals are in top form.
Good artwork, good story, need I say more? Lady Mechanika: The Tablet of Destinies No. 2 earns a five out of five metal bikinis in my book.
