There’s a lot of action in Target Vader #3 while Valance and his bounty hunter allies try to do the impossible. Most of it is air combat as things blow up everywhere. All of it leads up to the cliffhanger – Vader in their sights.

There’s a lot going on in this issue. It kicks off with a flashback of Valance when he was still with the Empire and a time when Vader saved him and his fellow troops. It flash forwards to a Hidden Hand base where Valance and his team hijack some drone ships which they use against Vader when he shows up. They manage to blow up his Star Destroyer, but Vader still shoots them down out of the air. On foot, they blow up Vader’s TIE fighter and the issue ends with him in their sights about to pull the trigger. The question is, where is this series heading with three more issues to go? We know Vader doesn’t die. What’s left to do?

The artwork in this issue is pretty good. There’s some really wild layouts that help sink the reader into the action and convey a sense of motion. There’s great detail, coloring, and both the scenery and the characters look good.

With good artwork and an interesting story, this one is worth checking out. Of course it remains to be seen if this series is going to be worth it in the end. As is, I give this one a four out of five metal bikinis.
