Shattered Empire #3 wraps up the plot threads created in the previous issue and puts a tidy bow on the battle of Naboo. Also coming to the forefront are a lot of cameos: Leia, Han, Chewbacca, Nien Nunb, and Lando. While there’s no earth shattering revelations, there are some fun moments. But with there only being one more issue left in this mini-series, where will it go next?

On Naboo, we get to see Poe Dameron’s mom take to the skies of Naboo to defend the planet. Flying along beside her are Princess Leia and the Queen of Naboo all sporting classic Naboo starfighters. So adding to Shara’s reputation, she can say she once flew with Leia and the queen to save a planet from the Imperials.

Sergeant Kes Dameron has some of his own fun as he, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO and the Pathfinders take out a secret Imperial Security Bureau base. Afterwards they hook up with Leia and Shara, but not before Lando saves the day. It ends the issue on a very happy note and wraps up most of the plot. The only unanswered question is if this last command of the Emperor is played out or if there is more to come.

Chewie is awfully friendly for someone choking out a fully armored Scout Trooper.

A too young Han?

The art in Shattered Empire #3 is really nice. There’s lots of detail, gorgeous coloring and luscious panels. It captures the action of the battle scenes and doesn’t do too bad of a job with the characters. Chewie is surprisingly cheerful looking in battle, which is a little odd, and Han looks really young, but Leia’s coloring didn’t bother me as much in this issue. It was also kind of neat how they did the Darth Maul flashback with his eyes in the Naboo hangar. That was an interesting touch.

Overall, I liked this issue. The story was intriguing, the art was good, and it had some closure which isn’t often seen in the penultimate issue in a series. I give Shattered Empire #3 a five out of five metal bikinis.
