Lady Mechanika #5 wraps up the first arc of the series with a smash up job. Some loose ends are tied up, other characters are further developed, and Mechanika is all set for her next adventure. There’s great artwork, plot bunnies and lots to enjoy in this issue.
Everything begins with the mysterious Mr. Cain. The man can fly. He’s part machine and seemingly he’s telekinetic. He’s also not a ruthless monster. This issue goes a long way in shedding light on his character. Yet Benitez is wise enough to leave lots of mystery intact to keep the reader’s intrigue alive. And Mr. Cain isn’t the only mystery in this issue.
Aside from Cain, we find out more on Commander Winter, who proves to be absolutely ruthless. The Romani girl gets brought back from the brink of death with a new gift befitting of her blood. yet the real kicker is the ending. Good old Littleston is hiding something, and it will no doubt be brought to the page in future issues. For now, it gives readers plenty to chew on.
Artwise, there’s a small change up as Martin Montiel and Mike Garcia are brought on board in addition to Joe Benitez and Peter Steigerwald. Martin serves as an assistant penciller and Mike Garcia joins as an additional colorist. The art change is more noticeable in some panels than others, but overall it’s still good. It does rob the series a little bit from its gorgeous artwork, but there are still plenty of panels matching the quality of the previous issues.
Overall, Lady Mechanika #5 did a great job of wrapping up the arc and delivering a solid story I can definitely say that the first five issues of this series are well worth buying. Be the single issues or a collected trade, this is one series you should check out. I give it an impressive five out of five metal bikinis for outstanding artwork and storytelling.
