In Kanan – The Last Padawan #7, we get a flashback of Kanan’s past when he was a young padawan in the Jedi Temple. We see Mace. We see Yoda. But most importantly, we see how Caleb Dume and Depa Billaba met.
Having been stabbed in the back in issue #6, Kanan recuperates in a bacta tank and dreams of the past. We get to see some of his training as a padawan and his inquisitive nature. But the big payoff if his first meeting with Master Billaba. They reveal what happened to her. They show the progression as Caleb seeks her out and the beginning of an apprenticeship is born. It’s an interesting issue that lays out some backstory.
The artwork is pretty good, though still very cartoony. The style is consistent. There’s good quality lighting and coloring. A good amount of detail. While it’s not my preferred style, it’s not bad.
With an interesting story and decent artwork, I give Kanan – The Last Padawan #7 a four out of five metal bikinis. It reveals some things about Billaba, reinforces what we know of Caleb’s inquisitive nature as a kid, and begins to show the bond between them.
