I Hate Fairyland #13 takes a side step as it travel down the “what if” path. What if Larry had never met Gert? Would he have been better off. In this Larry centric issue, you’ll find out.

As Gert blabbers on about their next quest, Larry falls asleep and day dreams about what could have been. We get to see his parents, his birth and all of his siblings. We get to see his childhood, his schooling, and how he became a guide for visitors to Fairyland. At that point, things take a turn. Rather than being assigned to help Gert, he instead gets to help Happy. Everything goes perfect and he successfully guides her back home. It’s the ideal adventure. It’s what his quest with Gert should have been.

However, that success leads to more. The adventure doesn’t stop. Larry gets fame, money, and eventually, it all comes crumbling down. I’ll not ruin all the fun as Larry’s downfall is both tragic and comical. But on the plus side, he gets to wake up from his bad dream and return to Gert. That’s a win, right? Either way, Skottie Young knocks out another fun story and I really enjoyed getting to spend some time with Larry and his backstory.

The artwork continues to shine in this issue, even with a guest artist coming in to do the Larry flashback story. The two styles blend well.

Overall, another fun issue with a good story and great artwork. I give this one a five out of five metal bikinis.
