Allegiance #1 kicks off the Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with some good potential. It sets up a couple stories as all the main characters are off on missions, and it helps give an idea of what’s going on in the galaxy.

The issue starts off on the ice planet of Tah’Nuhna. There we see what the First Order is up to – suppressing the galaxy. Elsewhere, we learn the Resistance is now on the garbage planet Anoat where Rey has a nice little action scene against a big monster in the junkyards. Leia swings by to pick her up as they go off on a mission to Mon Cala. Surprisingly, they do not get a warm welcome there. Off somewhere else in the galaxy, Finn and Poe are out looking for a weapons stash and are being chased by the thieves from the Galaxy’s Edge comic series. They get ratted out to the First Order where we catch a glimpse of Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and we actually get to see him playing the part. It’s a tantalizing taste of what’s to come.

The artwork is really good in this issue. There’s plenty of action, as well as good portrayals of the characters, and good work with the backgrounds and scenery. It’s good visuals overall.

With good artwork and a good story, Allegiance #1 is off to a promising start. I give this one a four out of five metal bikinis.
