Video Game Review: ‘Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’

The Assassin’s Creed games are an interesting lot. On one hand, you get these big open world areas that you can explore with each game diving into a different area of history. In Odyssey, it explores the world of ancient Greece in a time where Sparta and Athens are at war with each other. You can captain a boat and cruise the high seas, wander the forests and hunt deer, climb mountains, explore islands you’ve probably never heard of, and walk the streets of towns that likely no longer exist. On the other hand, Assassin’s Creed is a combat game focused on ridiculous assassination skills. While there is no palm dagger in Odyssey, there is a broken spear with which you can dispatch your opponents with gravity defying acrobatics. Or you can just hack and slash your way to victory. Either way, it’s a game that merges violence and beautiful scenery to create a 3D world you can escape into. The story, however, is another matter.   • A new blurb for Alphabet Squadron has been released to go along with the cover and the announcement that it’s now part of a trilogy. It will also get a comic crossover with Star Wars: TIE Fighter.

Comic News

  • StarWars.com has revealed that we’ll be getting a five issue Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic written by Ethan Sacks and art by Will Sliney. It’ll be out in April. StarWars.com also has an interview with the writer.
  • StarWars.com also revealed a tie-in comic series for Alphabet Squadron that will be called Star Wars: TIE Fighter. The series will be written by Jody Houser and will feature artwork by Rogê Antônio.

  • Tsuneo Sanda has a special art print for sale featuring Rey. Proceeds are going to Support Disaster Areas by Hurricanes and Wildfires.
  • Dave Dorman also has a couple prints for sale, but they are very limited. One is a Star Wars print featuring Rey and BB-8 on Jakku, the other features Pennywise the Clown from the new It. It’s creepy and awesome.

  • USA Today has an audio excerpt of John Ham reading Paul Dini’s short story from From A Certain Point of View.
  • StarWars.com has an interview with author Claudia Gray covering her book Leia: Princess of Alderaan.
  • Edelweiss has two new interesting Star Wars book entries. On is for an untitled Jason Fry hardcover that’s 96 pages long and will be out March 27, 2018. It’s listed as a “replica journal” and “juvenile fiction” so this might be similar to the Rey journal that was done for The Force Awakens.

Follow the next adventure in the Star Wars saga in this first person narrative. This book for tweens will feature a first-person account from one of the main characters of the second installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Format includes foldouts.

There’s also a book called Star Wars: Poe Dameron: Registro de Vuelo by Michael Kogge that is specifically for Spanish speaking fans.
