Hell’s Heart, the first book in the Star Trek: Prey trilogy by John Jackson Miller is out today. You can read our full non-spoiler review right here and you can check out our interview with John covering the book and the trilogy right here.

When Klingon commander Kruge died in combat against James T. Kirk on the Genesis planet back in 2285, he left behind a powerful house in disarray—and a series of ticking time bombs: the Phantom Wing, a secret squadron of advanced Birds-of-Prey; a cabal of loyal officers intent on securing his heritage; and young Korgh, his thwarted would-be heir, willing to wait a Klingon lifetime to enact his vengeance.

Now, one hundred years later, while on a diplomatic mission for the United Federation of Planets, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise are snared in the aged Korgh’s trap—and thrust directly in the middle of an ancient conflict. But as Commander Worf soon learns, Korgh may be after far bigger game than anyone imagines, confronting the Federation-Klingon alliance with a crisis unlike any it has ever seen!

Last weekend I went to a small sci-fi convention in Columbia, MO called DoDeca Con. While there I had the opportunity to chat with author John Jackson Miller. I talked with John about his new trilogy Star Trek: Prey, his Halo short story in Halo: Fractures, his comic in Halo: Tales From Slipspace, and his short story in Planet of the Apes: Tales From the Forbidden Zone. Below you can either listen to the interview on YouTube, or download it via Podbean.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Beyond the Vote: A Long Expected Partition jumps back into politics as Riley and Scott catch up on what’s passed and talk about what’s to come. Enjoyable as always and I hope they put out a few more episodes before the election comes to an end.

Blabba the Hutt: Episode 27 mentions their award nomination, they talk about the Darth Vader comic, the book Cinema Alchemist, the new TFA release, and for the main discussion, Kate talks about her trip to Ireland and Skellig Michael with some interview clips which are pretty interesting. Good episode with some nice insight on Ireland, beneficial if you’re thinking about going there.

Blast Points: Episode 40 features guest Darin Beaver. Darin was a senior visual effects artist for Disney Infinity and also worked on Star Wars Kinect. They talk with Daren about both games which leads to some fun stories about the infamous dance mode, the code names involved with The Force Awakens characters in Infinity, and the challenges and secrecy involved. Darin even talks about how well Disney handled the layoff process. Very interesting and entertaining episode. I highly recommend this one. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

After Dark Side: Episode 22 is the best After Dark Side episode I’ve listened to so far. They start out talking about YouTube, stuff they’re watching and new policies, then the discussion shifts to UFO’s and poltergeists. They get into dream examinations and spook stories which is pretty cool. Fun one to listen to.

Beltway Banthas: Episode XII features guests Lauren Milberger and Rachel Leishman (The FordCast) as they talk about actor Harrison Ford, his activism and his politics. It’s a very interesting episode covering aspects you don’t normally hear about on most Star Wars podcasts. Good one to check out.

Blast Points: Episode 39 covers Rogue One news, the product catalog, Star Wars Rebels clips, episode titles, and then they go into the George Lucas Super Live Adventure. They talk about the show, all the stuff it covered, the various music acts, etc. Now they don’t go into the history of the show too much as this one is mostly an overview of what was in the show as they watched the whole thing on YouTube. If you don’t know anything about it, Tested.com did a really nice write up on it a while back. That said, this episode gives you a better idea of what actually happened in the show without watching it yourself. Of course, it’ll also persuade you to check it out. Have fun! Along with Kevin at MidAmeriCon II was his wife and fellow author Rebecca Moesta. I couldn’t resist taking the chance to interview Rebecca as she’s worked on some very interesting series in the Star Wars literary universe. We spoke with her about her work on The Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights series, what those projects were like and how the collaborative process worked, and her first story in the Star Wars realm, “Trade Wins: The Ranat’s Tale.” We also touched on her Star Trek novel, her original series Crystal Doors and an upcoming nonfiction book she’s working on that deals with the many layers of writing.

Christie Golden’s new Star Wars novel Dark Disciple will be coming out in July, but Star Wars isn’t the sci-fi franchise she started out with. Long before it, she wrote over a dozen Star Trek books. To widen my own field of fandom, I picked up The Murdered Sun by Christie Golden. Click here to read our full review.
