November 11, 2019 at 9:40 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Bread & Water” by Ryan Bingham.

Ryan Bingham falls somewhere in between country and rock. One thing is for sure, he’s got some good songs. “Bread & Water” is off of his album Mescalito, which is a fairly solid album.

Ryan Bingham does vocals and acoustic guitar backed by his band, The Dead Horses. Mescalito features quite a few guest musicians including Marc Ford (former lead guitarist for The Black Crowes), Terry Allen, and Joe Ely. So far they’ve put out seven studio albums, all of which have some good tracks. If you like the sound, be sure to check out the rest of their catalog.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Left Behind”

October 15, 2019 at 6:13 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Left Behind” by Another Animal.

Another Animal is the result of a hard rock supergroup formed by members of Godsmack, Dropbox and Ugly Kid Joe.

Another Animal came about due to writer’s block for Godsmack‘s vocalist and songwriter. Godsmack‘s lead guitarist Tony Rombola, drummer Shannon Larkin, and bassist Robbie Merril joined up with Ugly Kid Joe‘s lead singer Whitfield Crane and Dropbox‘s guitarist Lee Richards. The result: Another Animal. They only made one album, Another Animal, however they did release a new single in 2011 called “Fall of Rome”. If you like “Left Behind” I’d also recommend checking out “Broken Again”.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Let Them Eat Rock”

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Let Them Eat Rock” by The Upper Crust.

I found this one via Pandora through my Krokus station. The Upper Crust does a superb job of channeling AC/DC (Bon Scott era) without lifting guitar riffs. They even capture the same lyrical charm even while being a parody band.

If you like that one, there’s plenty more. The Upper Crust has been around since 1995 with their 18th century aristocratic fop outfits complete with stage names like Lord Bendover (Nat Freedberg, guitar and vocals), Count Bassie (Chris Cote, bass), The Duc D’istortion (Dave Fredette, guitar) and Jackie Kickassis (Jim Janota, drums). The Boston band has done seven albums over the years with their last one in 2017, and they’re still doing live shows. “Let Them Eat Rock” is off their first album of the same name.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “I’m Not Drowning”

September 16, 2019 at 7:58 pm | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “I’m Not Drowning” by Steve Winwood.

Some songs just resonate with you. Steve Winwood‘s “I’m Not Drowning” is a quiet song, but the guitar and the backing instruments create a beat that penetrates the soul with an upbeat melody.

Steve Winwood is an English musician that has done a lot of solo work, but he’s also been a member of The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith and Go. Born in Handsworth, Birmingham, Steve has earned a lot of awards and accolades over the years, and he’s put out a lot of albums. “I’m Not Drowning” can be found on Nine Lives, his ninth studio solo album.

August 12, 2019 at 6:17 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Right Now Anywhere” by The Black Moods.

I had the opportunity to see The Black Moods in concert over the weekend and I was really impressed. Not only do they have some good music, but they’re also a great live band. If you ever get the opportunity, go for it. They put on a good show. “Right Now Anywhere” is off their 2016 album Medicine. They only have two albums so far, but they are releasing some singles in anticipation of their third album.

The Black Moods is a three man band with Josh Kennedy on guitar and vocals, Jordan Hoffman on bass, and Chico Diaz on drums. They’re an Arizona band who put their first album out in 2011. Their 2018 single “Bella Donna” hit the top 40 so they’ve been gaining some radio air play, and they’re on tour right now if you want to catch them.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Dirt Bound”

July 30, 2019 at 7:08 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Dirt Bound” by Bonafide.

There are a decent amount of bands out there that sound similar to AC/DC. That’s because they inspired a lot of people. Bonafide nails the sound but with some vocals that help them stand apart.

“Dirt Bound” is off their their 2007 self-titled and debut album Bonafide. They’re a Swedish band that’s been around since 2006 and if you like “Dirt Bound” there’s plenty more where that came from. They have seven albums to choose from right now and plenty of good songs on all of them. Happy hunting.

July 15, 2019 at 7:18 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Shame On Me” by The Bottle Rockets.

You’ve probably never heard of The Bottle Rockets, but they’re a band worth checking out. I bring to your attention “Shame On Me”, a song with a great sound and good lyrics.

The Bottle Rockets are a Missouri band that have been around since 1992. With thirteen albums including one live album and one accoustic, they have lots to choose from for those music hunters digging into discographies. “Shame On Me” appeared on their 2009 album Lean Forward.

The band features Brian Henneman and John Horton on guitar and vocals, Keith Voegele on bass and vocals, and Mark Ortmann on drums.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Last Time I Saw the Sun”

July 1, 2019 at 6:36 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “The Last Time I Saw the Sun” by The Dead Daisies.

The Dead Daisies is one of the bands I just stumbled across. It started with one song and it lead to another and another and next thing you know, I was plowing through their discography to see what all they had. Now they’re not a band who I can jam out to their entire album, but they have a lot of good songs scattered amongst their albums, like this one.

“Last Time I Saw The Sun” is from their third studio album Make Some Noise which came out in 2016. They’ve got three other albums you can check out with some good songs on all of them. The band’s lineup has changed over the years, but for Make Some Noise they had John Corabi on vocals, Doug Aldrich and David Lowy on guitar, Marco Mendoza on bass, and Brian Tichy on drums.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Keep On Swinging”

June 24, 2019 at 4:39 pm | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Sometimes you find a good song but you don’t take the time to check out the album, let alone the band’s full discography. Then one day you do it and you find an absolute gem like this, “Keep On Swinging” by Rival Suns.

This version of “Keep On Swinging” is a live acoustic take on the studio track from their third album Head Down. Rival Sons has a lot of good songs, with a variety of styles. The Long Beach, CA band started in 2009 and currently has six studio albums. They’re formed by Jay Buchanan (vocals), Scott Holiday (guitar), Mike Miley (drums) and Dave Beste (bass) who replaced the former bassist, Robin Everhart, who was on Head Down.
