Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 116 they talk about getting The Last Jedi on Blu-ray, the experience of watching it at home, they go over the documentary The Director and The Jedi, the deleted scenes and they touch on some of the other extras included. Now I specifically waited until after I watched all the extras before listening to this episode, but in retrospect, that’s really not necessary. Either way, you’ll enjoy this episode, assuming you like movie of course.

This was definitely the funniest episode I listed to this week. Loved it.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Awards Chatter: Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) starts with a conversation with Carolyn Giardina as they talk about the tech categories for the Academy Awards. The interview with Rockwell kicks in at 31 minutes. Sam talks about his parents, his childhood, doing odd jobs, parts he tried for and didn’t get, and he shares a bunch of acting stories. Great interview and definitely worth checking out if you’re a Rockwell fan. You might want to skip the first part of the episode if you have no interest in the Academy Awards, but they do bring up some interesting things about the technical categories and how those nominations work.

Awards Chatter: Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) begins with an Academy Awards discussion with guest Adam Irving as they go over documentaries, what was picked, and what was passed over. The interview with Dafoe starts at 31 minutes in. Willem talks about his parents, his name (which is a nick name, his real name is William), how he became an actor, and how he goes about choosing his roles. He shares some great stories from his career, including how he was in the Philippines during a revolution, as well as some stories from The Boondock Saints and his latest movie, The Florida Project. Great interview. Depending on your interest in the Academy Awards, you may or may not want to skip the first part of the episode.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 117 kicks off with the news, they talk a little Solo, they cover the Young Ones reference in The Last Jedi, highlight Master Codebreaker’s details from the guide book, and they touch on the porg documentary in The Last Jedi bonus features. Then they do something special, they host a Star Wars awards show. Now unlike what you might expect, Jason and Gabe dig deep to come up with some really fun and off the wall categories like best Aunt Beru voice, best Yoda puppet, best lightsaber form or hand decapitation, and much much more. Very fun episode.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. Wee bit of toy focus in this one as I did some catching up.

Beltway Banthas: Interview: Jon Lovett of Pod Save America kicks off with Jon as they talk with him about Star Wars, Rogue One, politics, and The Last Jedi. He shares his thoughts on the movies, and they talk with him a bit on real world politics, as well as Star Wars politics. Fair warning if you listen with your kids, there was an F-bomb or two.

Brews and Blasters: Episode 161 kicks off with snow, wine, steak tips, manicotti, and black light posters. When you go off on Star Wars black light posters, you know you’re in for a fun ride. They go over The Last Jedi Blu-ray a little, then Chris presents his sales pitch for the HasLab sail barge. If you haven’t backed it yet, Chris may very well sway you. They also talk about Toys R Us and toy stores, they touch on Forces of Destiny, the Jon Favreau news, speculation on next animated series, and George Lucas breaking ground for his museum. Great episode.

Dan talks about reading the scripts for Rogue One and The Last Jedi before the films came out, working with the storygroup, tackling the book and the various characters, his thoughts on the Rebel Alliance, New Republic and the Rebel leaders, the politics of the Rebel Alliance, and the extras included in the deluxe edition of The Rebel Files. Great interview.

They start off with some Star Wars Rebels discussion, then they get into their main topic which delves into Rey and Kylo and the connections to real world bipartisan politics. It’s a very interesting discussion with some connections I never even thought of making. Definitely worth a listen.

Afterwards, they get to their main topic – Marcia Lucas. They cover how she got started in editing, how she met George Lucas, how they got married, her work on THX1138, American Graffiti, Star Wars, the things she was responsible for, their adoption of Amanda, and their separation. They talk about how important she was in regards to Star Wars, how she may have been the secret ingredient for the original trilogy, and how her absence may have affected the prequels. Plus there’s a couple audio clips. Great stuff. Definitely one you’ll want to listen to.
