Art New

  • Dave Dorman had a nice update for his Star Wars fans, “Because I am not going to SW Celebration this year, I don’t want my fans, old and new, to miss out on any Dorman SW prints. So for one week prior to Celebration, I will have a sale on my SW artist proofs. This will probably run from April 4-12. Keep it tuned here on FB for more as we get closer. I am working on a new small oil painting of DARTH MAUL. I will have that to show and sell towards the end of the week.” You can watch Dave paint Darth Maul right here.

Book News

  • Author Jason Fry has posted part 1 and part 2 of his author notes for Imperial Justice.
  • Update from author Paul S. Kemp via Facebook, “In vague writing news, finished a novel outline and am now pondering a short story for a cool antho.” That novel outline may or may not be related to the tie-in novel he mentioned he was working on in his January reddit AMA.

Star Wars artist Joe Corroney and Brian Miller will be heading to Star Wars Celebration next month and both artists have revealed their exclusive prints. Details below!

Both artists will be attending Star Wars Celebration Orlando April 13 – 16 where their artwork will be featured in the Celebration Art Show. Limited edition, officially licensed prints of the artwork are being made available exclusively for attendees as well. As artists who work on officially licensed Lucasfilm projects Joe Corroney and Brian Miller also participate in Celebration programming for the fans. Joe will be sketching Star Wars characters at Booth No. 2810 and Brian will be participating in the Star Wars Kids art program. Kids can learn how to make droids with Brian during the “Create a paper-craft BB-8″ event at Celebration.

Fans will find Joe Corroney and Brian Miller appearing at at booth no. 2810 during the event. Attendees interested in the two limited edition prints,’STAR WARS: 40 YEARS OF THE FORCE’ and ‘I REBEL’ may pre-order them starting March 15th at the links below and pick-up the prints in person at Star Wars Celebration booth no. 2810. These exclusive prints will sell-out, pre-ordering is strongly encouraged.

STAR WARS: 40 YEARS OF THE FORCE – http://bit.ly/swcoexclusive
Price $60
Limited to 250 edition
Hand signed and numbered  – includes certificate of authenticity
12″ x 24″
7-color fine art silkscreen on 100# French speckle tone stock

When asked about his artwork for Celebration Miller says,’STAR WARS: 40 YEARS OF THE FORCE’ is a salute to the anniversary of the 1977 release of Star Wars. The idea was to illustrate Star Wars in a manner evocative of the time period. I love the scene where Luke Skywalker turns off the targeting computer in his X-Wing fighter and uses the Force to focus on his target. It’s symbolic of Luke truly embracing the light side of the force and beginning his journey to becoming a Jedi. In this pivotal moment Darth Vader has Luke’s X-Wing in his sights until Han Solo and Chewbacca return in the Millennium Falcon to blast the TIE Fighters. The Rebel and the scoundrel work together to destroy the Death Star and save the rebellion. It’s a timeless moment and one I am proud to have captured with this new illustration.

I REBEL – http://bit.ly/swcolimited
Price $60
Limited to 250 edition
Hand signed and numbered
Measures 18″ x 24″ inches
4-color process lithograph on 80# cover stock with satin aqueous archival finish

Joe Corroney and Brian Miller each chose to represent the Rebellion in their Star Wars Celebration exclusive illustrations titled, ‘STAR WARS: 40 YEARS OF THE FORCE’ & ‘I REBEL’. Between the two artist they have managed to capture the essence of the original Star Wars film as well as embrace the latest film in the franchise, Rogue One. Joe had this to say about his newest illustration, “I absolutely loved Rogue One, especially the character of Jyn Erso from the film. For this new print I wanted to capture the defiance of her character during one of the key action sequences on Jedha, Also, the title of the artwork is actually a quote taken from a cut scene from the film which appeared in the trailers when Jyn infamously says “I rebel”. The Star Wars saga has a great history of strong, heroic female characters that fans all over the world have looked up to and have been inspired by. I’m hoping female fans especially will really respond positively to this new art because of our own current period in history with women all over the world courageously marching and taking a stand against oppression for themselves and for the rights of others.”

Fans and collectors can view the prints for preorder at: http://masterdigitalcolor.com/2017/03/swcoexclusive/

Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Book News

  • This one is beyond Star Wars, but written by Star Wars authors. Kevin Hearne and Delilah S. Dawson will be teaming up to write a book called Kill The Farm Boy which will be published by Del Rey. It’s quite the tongue and cheek title, and given the authors involved, this one will probably be a lot of fun. Here’s the project in Kevin’s own words…

About a year ago my buddy Delilah S. Dawson and I were killing an hour in the Dallas airport and we came up with an idea for messing with fantasy tropes in a humorous fashion. KILL THE FARM BOY was born. Had to file it away for a while and enjoy some tacos. But a couple months ago, because of, you know, THE WORLD, we needed something lighthearted to work on as therapy. So we started writing a proposal. We outlined the book and wrote five sample chapters that made us both laugh. We also came up with ideas for a couple more books.

And what do you know? Del Rey thought they were funny too and said we can go ahead and write them! So that’s coming, friends. KILL THE FARM BOY will be out next year. Delilah and I are taking turns writing chapters while we also work on our solo projects.

I think y’all are going to dig it. We’re laughing out loud as we do this.

  • In Star Wars book news, Amazon now has a look at the cover for Star Wars: On the Frontlines by Daniel Wallace.
  • Author Paul S. Kemp has posted his short story “Continuum” online for free. This story connects Shadowstorm and Shadowrealm., books two and three of The Twilight War.

Empire’s End by Chuck Wendig is out today in hardcover, digital and audiobook formats and marks the end of the Aftermath Trilogy.

EVERY END IS A NEW BEGINNING.

As the final showdown between the New Republic and the Empire draws near, all eyes turn to a once-isolated planet: Jakku.

The Battle of Endor shattered the Empire, scattering its remaining forces across the galaxy. But the months following the Rebellion’s victory have not been easy. The fledgling New Republic has suffered a devastating attack from the Imperial remnant, forcing the new democracy to escalate their hunt for the hidden enemy.

For her role in the deadly ambush, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane is the most wanted Imperial war criminal—and one-time rebel pilot Norra Wexley, back in service at Leia’s urgent request, is leading the hunt. But more than just loyalty to the New Republic drives Norra forward: Her husband was turned into a murderous pawn in Sloane’s assassination plot, and now she wants vengeance as much as justice.

But Sloane, too, is on a furious quest: pursuing the treacherous Gallius Rax to the barren planet Jakku. As the true mastermind behind the Empire’s devastating attack, Rax has led the Empire to its defining moment. The cunning strategist has gathered the powerful remnants of the Empire’s war machine, preparing to execute the late Emperor Palpatine’s final plan. As the Imperial fleet orbits Jakku, an armada of Republic fighters closes in to finish what began at Endor. Norra and her crew soar into the heart of an apocalyptic clash that will leave land and sky alike scorched. And the future of the galaxy will finally be decided.
