As part of the ramp up for the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney-Lucasfilm Press released four eBook short stories written by Landry Q. Walker. Each of the four stories stars an alien side character for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We took the time to interview Landry to get to know more about him, the project, and the stories within. Enjoy!

With Tales From A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens being your first Star Wars project, how did it come about?

Landry Walker: I was working at the Sideshow Collectibles office – I do freelance story development for with them with their Court of the Dead property, and I checked my email. The email basically said “Hi. Do you want to work on Star Wars?” And then a bunch of other stuff about the project, I think. I handed the phone over to my comics collaborator Eric Jones who was with me that day and had to have him read the email because I had stopped breathing after that first sentence. Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this exclusive ebook short story set shortly before the events of the film, featuring a quick-witted mercenary who takes big risks for bigger rewards—and now faces the challenge that will take her to the edge.

There are plenty of mercenaries, spies, and guns for hire in the galaxy. But probably none as dangerous and determined as Bazine Netal. A master of disguise—and lethal with a blade, a blaster, or bare handed—she learned from the best. Now it’s her turn to be the teacher—even if schooling an eager but inexperienced recruit in the tricks of her trade is the last thing she wants to do. But it’s the only way to score the ship she needs to pull off her latest job.

An anonymous client has hired Bazine to track down an ex-stormtrooper and recover the mysterious package he’s safeguarding. Payment for the mission promises to be astronomical, but the obstacles facing Bazine will prove to be formidable. And though her eager new sidekick has cyber skills crucial to the mission, only Bazine’s razor-sharp talents will mean the difference between success or failure—and life or death.

Today we have a very special interview conducted by Doug McCausland. A couple weeks ago Doug did an outstanding interview with author Kevin J. Anderson covering the 20th anniversary of the Jedi Academy Trilogy. This week Doug continues his series of Star Wars author interviews with Kathy Tyers.

In the early to mid 90’s, Kathy Tyers was one of the most prominent authors of the Bantam-era Star Wars Expanded Universe alongside Timothy Zahn & Kevin J. Anderson. Her first contribution to Star Wars lore was 1994’s The Truce at Bakura, taking place immediately after the events of Return of the Jedi. She would later go on to contribute several short stories to Kevin J. Anderson’s Tales From The… series, including “Prize Pelt: The Tale of Bossk” and “We Don’t Do Weddings: The Band’s Tale”, as well as the New Jedi Order installment Balance Point.
