Aftermath: Empire’s End is the final book in the Aftermath trilogy, written by Chuck Wendig and released in February 2017.

It seems like each Aftermath book has a different genre or story style, while still having the same underlying themes and tones. Aftermath is a kind of a heist book where a ragtag group comes together to rescue someone. Life Debt is more of a traditional star wars book with a hint of political thriller added to the mix. Empire’s End is more of an epic war book with some smaller stories happening inside it. I like those aspects of all three, but because they are each so different, it makes it harder to like Aftermath as a cohesive trilogy.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the second adult film novelization in the canon written by Alexander Freed and released in December of 2016.

If you’ve read my previous novelization review of The Force Awakens, you know that novelizations have a high bar with me. In fact, unless it’s something I’m really interested in, I usually skip novelizations in media tie-in fiction because they rarely add anything of value and if they do, it’s nominal. There are very few novelizations that appeal to me, and most do not.

Catalyst by James Luceno is an adult canon book released in November of 2016. It is one of the tie-in books to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and it follows the characters of Galen and Lyra Erso, Orson Krennic, and Has Obitt.

I remember in 2016 when I was just getting into Star Wars books that my parents allowed me to go the day of release to the local bookstore to snatch up my copy of Catalyst. I was incredibly excited for Rogue One, and this book was really hyped online.

Aftermath: Life Debt is the second novel in the Aftermath trilogy written by Chuck Wendig and released in July of 2016.

When I first read Life Debt, I liked it a whole lot more than the first Aftermath book. I think that this has the effect of being more popular because it includes major characters like Han and Leia, but it also kind of explains what’s happening to the greater galaxy at large. While those are things the first book was lacking, I still had several problems with this book, many of which were present in the first book.

Retro Reviews: ‘Bloodline’ by Claudia Gray

September 22, 2020 at 5:35 am | Posted in Books, Random House, Regular Feature, Retro Reviews, Reviews, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | 1 Comment

Bloodline by Claudia Gray, is an adult canon novel set roughly six years before the events of The Force Awakens. It was released in May of 2016.

I remember loving this book when it first came out. I was still inexperienced in reading books and so it took me a while to get into it. But when you combine Claudia Gray, politics, and Star Wars, you are sure to have a great book.

The first thing I’d like to point out is that Claudia Gray absolutely nails the character of Leia. All of her lines, her actions, her motivations, and her feelings felt completely in tune with what we see in the movies, and Claudia just makes me feel so bad for all the bad things in her life. Despite all of the good in her life, Leia has one of the most tragic stories in Star Wars, and this book shows how difficult public service can be.
