Movie Review: ‘The Gentlemen’
February 13, 2020 at 8:37 am | Posted in Movies, Reviews | Leave a commentThe Gentlemen is Guy Ritchie’s 10th film, and with his penchant for English gangster movies, this one is true to form. While it’s not his best film yet, it is a fun one. Plus it’s Matthew McConaughey’s first outing with Ritchie, so that’s a pretty good sell in itself.
Whether you’ve seen the trailers or not, there’s not much you need to know going in. Basically Matthew McConaughey is a gangster with a criminal empire and he’s the star of the movie. With a great cast of colorful characters, the movie spins a tale of twists, turns, burst of violence, and moments of humor. If you’ve seen any of Ritchie’s gangster/crime films, it’s along those lines. While this one has it’s own flavor, it doesn’t really raise the bar in any regard. However, it does entertain.
Without spoiling anything, it’s a fun movie. McConaughey does a good job, Hugh Grant plays a rather interesting character that’s worth a few laughs, but of everyone, Colin Farrell was probably the standout. I really liked his character and what he did with it.
So if you’re looking for a good character driven crime flick, The Gentlemen is worth checking out. I give it a four out of five metal bikinis.
