Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review, starting with the top five and honorable mentions, then moving on to the full reviews. As I was at Star Wars Celebration Chicago, not as many podcasts as usual, but I was able to go to some of the podcast stage panels and you can find those reviews below (though the audio isn’t available for all of them yet).

This Week’s Top Five

  1. Skytalkers Live On The Podcast Stage: The Rise of Skywalker Reaction
  2. Brews and Blasters Episode 204
  3. Beyond the Outer Rim The Phantom Menace Fanniversary Event LIVE from Star Wars Celebration Chicago
  4. Star Wars Report Episode 377
  5. Blast Points Podcast Episode 166

Now here is this week’s Podcasts in Review…

Beyond the Outer Rim: The Phantom Menace Fanniversary Event LIVE from Star Wars Celebration Chicago is the audio from their podcast stage. I was able to attend this one in person, so FYI I did not listen to all of the podcast on iTunes so I just sampled it to check on the audio quality. John and Ross hosted this one as they talked about The Phantom Menace, first experiences with the movie, what it is to them, their thoughts on the more controversial aspects, their joy for the podrace, thoughts on Qui-Gon, the Jedi Order, Palpatine, Darth Maul, the practical effects, the locations, the look of Naboo, Ewan and Obi-Wan, Kiera Knightly, the merch and marketing, and they reach out to the audience for feedback. Plus a trivia contest. The panel was a lot of fun and had a good flow.

Sarah, Teresa and Tricia were all there as they went over the favorite convention moments so far, meeting Enfys Nest, going to Ahsoka lives day, and they talk about the The Rise of Skywalker trailer. They also talk about the Galaxy’s Edge panel, how Coca-Cola is now in Star Wars, Frank Oz voicing a Force ghost Yoda for the parks, and how the Imagineers are working with John Williams. They they have on special guest Pria who talks about how she got into Star Wars, getting into history, her time at Celebration, and how she uses Star Wars as a public historian. Lords of the Sith Podcast: their Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 live show from the podcast stage isn’t out yet, but it should show up here when it’s available. I was able to attend this one in person. The panel was hosted by Denise and Lee along with special guest Monte as they discussed The Rise of Skywalker, hope for Bendemption, whether Skywalker could become a title, J.J.’s comments on the movie, the greatest evil, whether Kylo and Rey will join forces to fight Palpatine, the TIE fighter scene, they speculate who Luke was talking to with the voice over, they talk about the music, how the one ship looks like the ship Rey’s parents flew off on, and they ponder whether Rey will still be Rey nobody or if they’ll give her a lineage. They talk about the Kylo fight scene, Knights of Ren, hiding behind the mask, Poe and Finn on the skiff, Lando and whether he’ll be safe, the medal, Luke saying no one is ever really gone, Palpatine’s laugh, and the Death Star wreckage. They interacted with the audience, and then shifted gears to the theme of romance and how that can play into the new movie. They talk about Daisy Ridley’s comments on Reylo, Bendemption thoughts, and questions from the crowd. It was a good panel.

They go over The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer, they talk about The Mandalorian, and Jedi: Fallen Order. Nice observation about how the opening of the TROS trailer parallels the opening for the TFA trailer, and how this one has a Rey focus. They also speculate whether Palpatine and Kylo will both have to die in order to eliminate all the Skywalkers from the galaxy.

Rogue Podron: their Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 podcast stage show is not out yet (should show up here when it is), but I was able to attend in person. Of all the podcast panels I went to, they definitely had the weirdest topic as they talked about the bone market which is a fictional thing they came up with for the Caretakers on Ahch-To. They posed the question that if Star Wars Celebration was a bone market, what con exclusive bone would you buy. From there they talk about the Caretakers, how they came up with the bone market idea, the male Lanai and their return parties, the circle of life with bones, milk, and Luke’s strong Jedi bones. They talk about the Caretakers’ terrible brooms, the specific fish nuns and their favorites, they asked the crowd what bones they would buy, and they roast Qui-Gon a little. It was a ridiculous and hilarious panel.

This panel was right after the Episode IX panel, so they had the first reactions from just seeing the teaser trailer. They talk about Rey looking like Padme, Palpatine being in the movie, his contingency plans, who the Skywalker is in the title, the nice rhyming of Revenge, Return and Rise, they talk about the medal, Leia, collecting dark side objects, and more. I don’t think they’re going to release the audio for it since it was more of an experience than an audio event – but you can check out the video of it here and here. Rich and Sarah put on a show with appearances from secret squirrel, Darth Vader and the 501st who named everyone in the room a rebel spy except Rich, they talk about The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer and polled the audience for their thoughts, Din from F-105 played a new song along with Chris Macht which was really good, and they did some blind folded trivia which was really amusing.
