Adolescence After Alderaan: Episode 26 they discuss The Crystal Star with a surprisingly optimistic opinion. They talk about the Solo kids getting kidnapped, Han being on vacation, Luke being mopey and sad, Waru, ghostlings, and more as they breakdown the book. Good discussion.

Adolescence After Alderaan: Episode 27 they discuss Heir to the Empire which they weren’t so positive about, as they like The Crystal Star better. They talk about the Hannibal Lector/Sherlock Holmes aspect of Thrawn, they talk about Mara Jade and Talon Karrde, Captain Pellaeon, Joruus C’baoth, Leia being a way to make Jedi, more magical twins, and overall how it was a dull book. If you’re a fan of the book, it’s certainly a different perspective.

Adolescence After Alderaan: Episode 28 they go over the first four stories from Tales From Mos Eisley. They talk about each story, touch on The Star Wars Holiday Special a little, and compare how the book holds up to Tales From Jabba’s Palace. There’s also some Harry Potter tangents and a Casablanca tangent. They go a bit off topic at the end, but it’s still fun.

Adolescence After Alderaan: Episode 33 they discuss Ambush at Corellia. They talk about how the book treats the kids, the time placement, how it’s only 300 pages long, they break down the story, touch on the way the author names the characters, Mon Mothma putting Luke to work, Lando going on a dating quest for a wealthy wife, Mothma ripping Luke to shreds, the Drall, Mara Jade, the Human League, the Hidden Leader, Mothma’s quirky behavior, the terrible relationship of the Solo family, Anakin being a weirdo, the negative view of Bail, and how the book set Anakin up to fall to the dark side. Good discussion.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 151 goes over the news as they touch on The Mandalorian casting news (pre-official announcement), love the idea of a Hot Toys Nick Nolte. They also talk about Kevin Smith and his Episode IX visit. Then, with us being one year from The Last Jedi and one year from Episode IX, they talk about the characters from the sequel trilogy, how they ended in TLJ, and where they might go in Ep, IX. From Finn, Kylo and Hux, to Poe, Maz, the droids, Leia, Luke and Rey. Will Kylo be redeemed? Will Maz return? What will they do with Leia? Nice observations on how Kylo rejected his destiny, and Rey embraced hers, Kylo ran from his family, and Rey ran towards a family. Good episode and, as always, they keep it fun and entertaining.

Great discussion.

For their main discussion, they talk about expanded universes and whether they have worked or not worked. Are they necessary? Is is it better when the original creator is involved? They touch on the Jurassic World franchise being a soft reboot, the Game of Thrones prequel being in the right direction or not, Firefly and Serenity, whether there is something missing with the new Star Wars movies, the Harry Potter universe, nostalgia, the Lord of the Rings Amazon series, Rogue One and Solo, the Vader cameo vs the Maul cameo, the Backup to the Future franchise, Avatar, and in the end, how execution determines what is a hit and what is a miss. Great, fun discussion. They don’t go too deep into any one franchise, instead they highlight a lot of them to illustrate various examples of how these universe can do good and bad things with different efforts.

Scavenger’s Hoard: Episode 86 covers the news as they talk about Kevin Smith visiting the Episode IX set and his comments on it. They talk about Who Talks First podcast going over the script for The Last Jedi and the things that caught their interest. They go over Star Wars Resistance “Secrets & Holograms.” Then they go over Episode IX leaks. Now if you’re absolutely avoiding all spoilers, you might want to stop here. They don’t go over anything that would ruin the movie, just some comments from a guy who was at a marketing event, but the info covers some possible details on Episode IX, from Kylo’s mask, to Rey’s lightsaber and the time jump. They also touch on some video game news and The Mandalorian info. Good episode.

They talk about Star Wars being a story about balance and how it needs a balance of the masculine and feminine. They talk about the hero’s journey, the collective conscious, Murdock and Campbell, Eve and Lilith, how men can go on the heroine’s journey, the pressures on Rey, Mortis connections, the mother, the musical theme for Rey reflecting the heroine’s journey, the healing of the masculine and the feminine, the womb cave, how all the men in Rey’s life push her toward Leia, and how the heroine’s journey is not a different path but an extension of the hero’s journey. Very interesting discussion with some really good topics and subject matter. Definitely worth a listen.
