Movie Review: ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’

The Girl in the Spider’s Web is a movie that fails to follow the books, and fails to create a good story on its own. It’s a sad attempt to cash in on a successful franchise and an example of a movie script that should never have been green lit. Sometimes you have to wonder how these things even happen.

First off, if you’re a fan of the original movie that starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, keep in mind this one is completely recasted. None of the original actors were used for this film, and that was by choice of the director. That was their first mistake. Their second mistake was the script. To say this movie is even loosely based of the book is a stretch. The only common factors is that Lisbeth hacks the NSA, so there’s a chief NSA character in the movie, Lisbeth’s sister shows up, and there’s a research scientist named Fans Balder who has a kid. Aside from the character names being the same, they threw the rest of the book in the trash. That said, I wasn’t a big fan of the book as it was poorly written. The author who replaced
Stieg Larsson did a terrible job in my opinion. But that’s not to say a good story couldn’t be pulled out of it if you rewrote it. There was a good core story there and some interesting characters and elements. The parts that were boring was the dialog and the exploration of technology. There was no reason to do the movie and go completely off the rails from the book, other than to piss off the fan base. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’…

Movie Review: ‘Overlord’

November 16, 2018 at 9:52 am | Posted in Movies, Reviews | Leave a comment

As a fan of World War II movies and zombies, Overlord seemed like a perfect fit. Finally someone was going to dig into the territory of games like Wolfenstein, the genre of sci-fi Nazi experiments with American soldiers going in to wipe them out. Alas, Overlord fell short of those wants and needs. It’s great looking movie with good special effects and CGI, but the key to all WWII films is the characters. The characters in Overlord are forgettable and shallow. Without anyone to care about, its horror aspects are all for show and lack the emotional hooks needed to draw you into the story.
