Movie Review: ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

June 25, 2018 at 2:56 pm | Posted in Movies, Reviews | 1 Comment

If you like dinosaur movies where the dinos eat people, then Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the movie for you. It’s not a deep character story or gripping drama, its action and fun. You get an exploding volcano, dinosaurs fighting other dinosaurs and humans, humans running for their lives, and even a dinosaur in a creepy mansion. There’s some new situations, some new dinosaurs, and some new characters, but there’s also familiar dinos and familiar people. But the key is that its fun.

The movie starts with recruiting the team to go save the dinosaurs from the exploding island. They go there, they start their rescue op, then the island starts exploding and everything goes to chaos. It’s a mad scramble to get off the island with their lives, and there’s some changes in scenery. We get some situations with the dinosaurs on the boat as they’re transported elsewhere, and there’s a crazy dinos in the mansion scenario which is completely new to the franchise. Some of the horror style elements in that locale where great. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’…

Movie Review: ‘Ocean’s Eight’

June 25, 2018 at 2:43 pm | Posted in Movies, Reviews | Leave a comment

Ocean’s Eight is pretty much just another Ocean’s film but with a different cast. You get a group of colorful characters, put them on a heist that has several layers, and you let the fun play out. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s a fun little movie.

Now I’ve seen most of the Ocean’s movies. From Ocean’s Eleven to the original back in 1960, but I sort of fell off the train with Ocean’s Twelve. Ocean’s Eight felt more like the original. They didn’t get too carried away with all the intersecting storylines of all the thieves and overly complicated plots. That’s not to say it’s simple, it’s just the right amount. As all the trailers have shown, Sandra Bullock is the lead in the role of Debbie Ocean. Her brother, Danny Ocean, is portrayed to be dead. Fresh out of jail, she has a score in mind so she starts putting together a crew and the wheels start turning. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Ocean’s Eight’…

Movie Review: ‘Tag’

June 25, 2018 at 2:42 pm | Posted in Movies, Reviews | 1 Comment

While the trailer for Tag looked pretty good, this one turned out to be a mediocre comedy. It could definitely have been done better. There’s some laughs, but there are a lot of moments that just don’t work. In the end, it’s a movie that really isn’t re-watchable and it’s not worth the price of admission.

The premise is a bunch of adults that have been playing the same game of tag for several decades. Every year during the month of May, they play the game. The last one it lives the rest of the year in shame. On top of all of that, one of them has never been tagged. But this year, they all try to change that. Jeremy Renner plays Jerry, the untaggable character. He’s getting married, so this is their last shot to get him before he quits the game. The rest of the group is formed by Ed Helms (Hoagie), Lil Rel Howery (Reggie), Jon Hamm (Bob), and Jake Johnson (Chilli). Isla Fisher (Anna) also plays a big part in the movie even though she’s not one of the guys so she can’t tag anyone or be tagged. All of the characters are over the top and ridiculous. Sometimes that can work, but it doesn’t quite work in this one. The biggest problem is that the game of tag is hindered by the fact that Jerry can never be tagged, and since everyone is trying to get him this time around, no one cares about tagging each other. This kills a lot of the fun and situations. I didn’t even realize that that was the key thing missing until the end of the movie when everyone actually plays, as it’s that much more fun when it happens. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Tag’…
