Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Blast Points Podcast: Episode 108 kicks off with some The Last Jedi stuff, Solo pics in France, then they get to their main topic, Leigh Brackett. They talk about her accomplishments and her career, how she wound up on George Lucas’ radar, and ultimately, they go over her first draft of The Empire Strikes Back, which at that point was just called Star Wars 2. They talk about Minch (aka Yoda), the bog planet, the asteroid chase, Luke and Vader’s mediation connection which is similar to The Last Jedi, Lando and how Hoth was Cloud City, levitating fruit, Luke’s dad not being Vader, sister mentioned, the Jedi oath, a very different Clone Wars, Lando as a clone, no Boba Fett or bounty hunters, no Han in carbonite, and many more differences and similarities to ESB. Great episode. If you’ve never read Leigh Brackett’s draft of Empire, then this is a must listen to episode.

Brews and Blasters: Episode 153 covers some Bob’s Burgers, Can’t Hardly Wait, toys, baby names, listener questions and they dive into Star Wars Rebels with the new trailer and the end of the show fast approaching. Fun discussions as always, be it Star Wars or off topic.

ForceCenter: Episode 100 covers news, the new Star Wars Rebels trailer, which leads to a discussion on Mortis and the Rebels characters. They go over the Solo synopsis, Knights of Ren, Rian’s Jedi Path tweets, seeing The Last Jedi in 3D, and then they get into one of the themes in The Last Jedi – admitting a weakness and moving forward. Afterwards they play a Star Wars build a buddy game, a Star Wars connection game, and they talk loud voices in fandom and listener questions.

They talk about situational factors, systemic factors and moral distress as they cover Anakin, the First Order and DJ and Canto Bight. Interesting discussion.

Less Than 12 Parsecs: LT12P Conversations #0001 features Tim talking with Ryan Dassing about what makes the Jedi such quitters. From Yoda running away from Palpatine, to Obi-Wan hiding in the desert and Luke hiding on Ahch-To. They tackle whether the Jedi only fight when they know they can win, and they also talk a little about the Vader comics. Good discussion but there’s a hot mic issue for Tim in this episode which hurts the audio quality.

Less Than 12 Rebels: Episode 1 is a new show from Less Than 12 Parsecs that goes over Star Wars fan films. In this episode they cover The Old Republic: Rescue Mission, The Lost Starfighter, and Troops. They share their thoughts on each and touch on the quality of the costumes, acting and special effects. Interesting concept for a show and definitely a good one to check out for fans of Star Wars fan films.

Me and My Padawan: Episode 8 kicks off with Star Wars news, they talk porgs, then they go over all the different types of Imperial troopers. They talk about the real life origin of stormtroopers, and then they take a break from Star Wars to talk Power Rangers. Plus there’s a tiny segment with Dillon covering Paw Patrol. They wrap up with some video game discussion as they talk Pong and Super Mario Odyssey. Fun episode.

Rock Out Loud: Inaugural Rock Out Loud Hall of Fame kicks off with some music videos, Def Leppard news, Bruce Springsteen, and Rob Thomas. Then they touch on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and go through their five picks for the Rock Out Loud Hall of Fame. As you might expect, this results in five bands you’ve heard a lot on the show.

Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode 200 covers Po-Zu shoes, Oscar nominations, audio highlights of the show to celebrate their 200th episode, listener feedback, and a very nice discussion of the music of The Last Jedi. A Chewie and the porgs sound bit by Rob leads into their discussion of the book Chewie and the Porgs which they do a full reading of. Lots packed into this episode.

Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1304 is quite a bit longer than usual as Allen interviews co-executive producer Nick Martorelli from Penguin Random House Audio. Nick goes over what his job entails, and they talk about the audiobook for From A Certain Point of View. They go over the large voice cast, selecting the narrators, how John Hamm was attached to the project, how long it took, the editing involved, and they also talk about the old audio dramas and an upcoming project. Good interview. Worth checking out.

The /Filmcast: Episode 451 is hosted by David, Jeff and Devindra as they talk with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. This episode is a must listen as they talk with him for over an hour about the film, which is absolutely awesome. Rian talks about how he came across The Jedi Path, getting the offer from Kathleen Kennedy, how he approached writing the story, dealing with fan reaction, making Rey a no one, coming up with the Rey cave scene, approaching Poe, heroism vs leadership, the wisdom of Leia, not changing Leia’s story, Luke’s robotic hand disappearing, the Holo maneuver, the silent explosion, defending the chase, and Snoke’s red room. Great interview with good audio quality. There is some adult language so keep that in mind if you’re listening with your kids. This one earns my pick of the week.

Good episode.

The Skyhoppers Podcast: Chatting About Droids With Saf is a slightly different show format as Ash sits down with Saf to talk about droids. Saf talk about her love for BB-9E, and touches a little on PZ-4CO. It’s a quick, fun little discussion.

TSW Round Table: Episode 13 features guests Em (Bridger Transmissions), Nathan Roberts and Casey Bennett as they talk clones vs First Order stormtroopers, what they would want from a video game, the Star Wars Rebels trailer, and the Force and balance. If you haven’t checked out the Talk Star Wars Round Table yet, it’s an interesting format where the main host Rob has different guests on each month for the show. The guests are a mixture of hosts from other podcasts in the Commonwealth network, and listeners of the show. It makes each show a little different, so you never quite know what you’re going to get.

Wookiee Radio: Episode 51 goes over the Amazon comic sale, anticipation for the Solo trailer, The Last Jedi novelization and how it will include Han’s funeral, the Oscars, and upcoming releases like Thrawn in paperback, the latest issue of Star Wars Insider and comics. Plus they have a Family Feud style Star Wars word game that’s fun. Good episode. They cover the news, but they also interject some good Star Wars discussions throughout.
