Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Beltway Banthas: Episode 46 touches on Swara’s trip to Japan, then they dive into The Last Jedi as they share their thoughts on the film. They talk about the Force connection between Kylo and Rey, Stephen’s thoughts on Daisy Ridley overacting, their issues with Holdo not telling Poe her plan, why the Resistance is all the sudden a Rebellion again, and whether that might have been a real world political move. They talk about being surprised that Leia didn’t die, and much more. Lots of great discussion touching on some really nice points. Definitely worth a listen. One of the things that makes Beltway Banthas unique is their focus on politics in and out of universe for Star Wars, and with The Last Jedi, there’s plenty to touch on. It’s a great place for intelligent, in-depth Star Wars discussions.

I’ve known about the Bondcast for a while, but to be honest, I never watched any of the old Bond films…until recently, which then had me jonsing for some Bond discussion. The BondCast was just the thing I was looking for. With all the great production and audio quality of the Rebel Force Radio main show, the BondCast focuses each episode on one of the Bond films as they dive into the interesting elements of the film, lots of fun trivia, and comparisons between the film and the books. Comics With Kenobi: Episode 36.1 is their Young Padawans Edition which focuses on the IDW Star Wars Adventures series. Jeff and Matt are joined by Amy, Emily, Jerry and Micah. Comics With Kenobi: Episode 39 starts with their thoughts on The Last Jedi. Then they talk loot crate news, and review Star Wars #40, Darth Vader #9, and A Star Wars Comic Annual #1. This episode marks their shift to a weekly show which also means a shorter runtime, which I think works much much better. There’s less wait time between the release of the issues and the discussion of them, plus it’s a lot less to take in which helps the discussion sink in more.

Afterwards they review the S.H. Figuarts Jango Fett. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of criticism on this one which I was not aware of. Having the figure myself, I actually really like it and didn’t notice any flaws. They address the issues with loose waists, bad paint wash, odd hands and more.

Which leads to the main topic of the episode – when Disney isn’t magical. Dave goes over some examples of issues, and gives some advice on how to handle problems you might run into. I rather liked this episode as I’ve never heard anyone discuss this aspect of Disney which is actually really useful to know.

Who Talks First: Episode 55 starts with some quick Phasma thoughts, then they turn their full attention to The Last Jedi and the Rey/Kylo focus of the movie and they go over every scene where Kylo and Rey are together. They talk about how the Rey/Kylo storyline is the A-plot. They talk about sex as a metaphor, how Kylo’s high waisted pants show only the wounds Rey gave him, the smut hut, Rey grasping for a Skywalker to be a hero–first Luke, then Ben, nailing herself in a coffin, the throne room scene, whether Snoke might have lied about bridging their minds when he might have only super charged an existing bond, the nothing speech and their rejection of it being a manipulation, and the last Force bond scene. They crush pretty hard on Kylo, and I have to admit they due tend to see everything in the rose tinted glasses of Kylo eventually being redeemed and Reylo being a thing. Not that Reylo is a bad thing, but they are on the extreme of it. While I personally am not shipping Reylo, it’s very interesting to hear other people’s opinions and to see how they view the Rey/Kylo relationship, and how they see the events in The Last Jedi playing into their favor for Reylo. If the topic interests you, this one is definitely worth a listen. Fair warning, they do cuss.
