Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

8 For VIII: Episode I covers Snoke. In this series of special episodes for Talk Star Wars VIP’s, Marc focuses on a specific character or topic all related to The Last Jedi. The character episodes cover what we know about the characters and what may be in store for them in the upcoming film. This one in particular touches on the possibility of the Snoke/Kylo relationship being an alternate take on the Palpatine/Anakin relationship.

Brews and Blasters: Episode 141 kicks off with bourbon, Stranger Things, KFC, Monster Squad, and then they get into Star Wars Rebels after a few tangents. They delve into Mandalorians, the Saw and Mon Mothma relationship and more.

Brews and Blasters: Episode 142 beings with some stories, then they get to the behind-the-scenes video for The Last Jedi and finish off with some listener emails.

Blast Points: Episode 98 kicks off with the new tv spot for The Last Jedi which leads to a very fun discussion. They also touch on the international poster, Kathleen Kennedy’s comments, and a recent Dave Filoni interview. Their main discussion is on director Richard Marquand and his legacy. They talk about his work as a directory, his history on Return of the Jedi and there lots of great facts. Excellent episode. This one is my pick of the week as it’s both fun and informative.

Bombad Radio: Episode 292 features Jeremiah, Kaela and Travis as they discuss Thor: Ragnarok with spoilers. They cover their expectations, their thoughts on the movie, funny moments, universe tie-ins and hidden themes. They also speculate on Infinity War.

Comic Book Noob: Hela covers the lead villain in Thor: Ragnarok as they dive into her comic book origins, her role, her ambition and her powers. Great primer for the movie, and for those who have already seen the film, it’s a nice way to dive deeper into the character.

Podcast Network: Assembly of GeeksRuntime: 25 minutes, Rating: Great

Comics With Kenobi: Episode 36 starts with news. They talk about the upcoming Forces of Destiny comics, a little about From A Certain Point of View, Tag and Bink, and then they get into reviews. They review Doctor Aphra #13, Darth Vader #6, Star Wars #37, Poe Dameron #20, Captain Phasma #3 and #4, Mace Windu #3, and A Star Wars Comic #10. They also rundown upcoming comics. Overall, good episode, but I have to admit that I would have liked Matt to actually go into spoiler territory with Phamsa as I wasn’t able to get whatever it was he was able to get out of the comic in regards to tie-ins to the book, and I really would have liked to hear the connections he was able to make as I think I may have missed some of the deeper themes or references.

Fly Casual: Episode 160 starts with pronunciations of the word “nuclear” before they head into the news. They talk KOTOR becoming backward compatible on Xbox One, new trailers and tv spot, they struggle through a Thandie Newton interview, touch on Disney’s theater requirements, and they hit toy news for Black Series porgs, the Disney Star Wars toy box line, and new Funko Pop sets. Petri guest stars in this one. I have to admit, Fly Casual is one of the highlights of my day when I see a new episode.

Podcast Network: Better Kind MediaRuntime: 1 hour 21 minutes, Rating: Fun

ForceCenter: Episode 87 starts out with Halloween and costumes, then they talk lightsabers. They get into their love of lightsabers, favorite lightsabers, they touch on some very interesting aspects with Jedi using other people’s lightsabers, they get into bleeding lightsaber crystals and more. They wrap up with listener questions which leads to a great one about who your A-Team of Jedi against Palpatine would have been.

Hyperspace PodBlast: Episode 37 features guests Mike and Hannah as they talk about how they’ve used Star Wars in the classroom and how it has affected both them and their students. Pretty interesting episode. Worth checking out.

Kanata’s Castle: ‘Looking For Leia’s’ Annalise Ophelian episode features guest Annalise who talks with Becca and Devon about females in fandom, the Looking For Leia documentary, the importance of Leia in Star Wars and other female characters, and how things have changed. Great conversation.

Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 143 Tim covers the top six things he’s missed in Star Wars since he’s been on break which includes the trailer, Freemakers, Star Wars Rebels, From A Certain Point of View, comics, Ron Howard and porgs…which is actually seven things.

Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 144 covers the new TV spot for The Last Jedi.

Magic on a Dollar: Episode 5 kicks off with news, Dave does a spoiler free overview of Thor: Ragnarok, and then he gets into an interesting comparison between Universal Studios and Disney and some of the rivalry. It’s not a full history but it touches on some interesting aspects, especially with Harry Potter giving them the edge but the looming juggernaut of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Plus Dave talks about why there are no Marvel super heroes in Disney World.

Rebel Force Radio: Episode 10.27.2017 is their Halloween show. They talk about Solo, Poe in The Last Jedi behind-the-scenes video and other observations, and Rian Johnson’s USA Today interview. Afterwards Jimmy talks with Ashley Eckstein about Ahsoka, what it was like in the beginning, how it changed with the character, how the short story in From A Certain Point of View came about, voicing the Ahsoka audiobook, Forces of Destiny, and Her Universe. Great conversation. Afterwards Jason and Jimmy talk with Tom Spina about Halloween masks, favorite movie monsters, scariest moments in Star Wars, they talk The Last Jedi and more. Wrapping things up, Jimmy talks with the guys from Sci-Fried and he plays one of their songs which is a Star Wars themed song “One With the Force.” I actually liked it. It really jammed. Overall, great, fun episode.

Rebel Force Radio: Episode 11.3.2017 starts off with some voicemails. Could the roles of Kylo and Rey flip flop? They talk a little about the book Stormtroopers: Behind the Armor. They go over Halloween etiquette, a recent interview Laura Dern did, New York Times article, posters and standees of Luke, a recent Adam Drive interview, and then they talk with Steve Sansweet about Rancho Obi-Wan and Star Wars.

Rebel Yell: In the Name of the Rebellion is hosted by just Steve and Teresa as they break down the episode of Star Wars Rebels, share some Saw impersonations, and they watch some clips of the next episode.

Rock Out Loud: Van Halen Part 2 – The Hagar Years starts with some Freddie Mercury news, Bruce, Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi, Greta Van Fleet, and documentaries. Then they finish their Van Halen discussion by covering the Sammy Hagar years with a selection of their favorite Sammy Hagar Van Halen songs.

Podcast Network: Geek Out LoudRuntime: 1 hour 59 minutes, Rating: Good

Skytalkers: Fulcrum Files: The Occupation and Flight of the Defender starts with a quick overview of the Star Wars Rebels episodes, then they get into the highs and lows, the lothwolf, thoughts on Kanan, and other topical aspects of the episode. Good discussion. I like how they focus on interesting parts of the episode rather than just going through the entire episode.

Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1221 focuses on Luke’s line in The Last Jedi trailer about raw strength as well as poll results on who the listeners think he was talking about.

Star Wars Rebels: Declassified: The Occupation/Flight of the Defender features Jason, Jimmy and Din (lead singer of F-105) as they cover both episodes of Star Wars Rebels. They get into the guerrilla warfare of Saw and the Rebels, the return of characters, the Kanan/Hera relationship, Kallus and Zeb, Sabine and Ezra, Thrawn and legitimate concerns, Gandolf, mentor characters, Ahsoka and the wolf, and Dume being spoken by the wolf.

Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Episode 40.5 is hosted by Dennis and Taxus as they go over Star Wars Rebels “In the Name of the Rebellion.”

Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Episode 40.75 is hosted by Dennis, Taxus and Jay as they go over Star Wars Rebels “Occupation” and “Flight of the Defender.” They talk about the disguises, the TIE Defenders, things coming full circle, Thrawn and Taxus spotted the homage to Patton in the episode. Nice discussion.

Podcast Network: RetroZapRuntime: 33 minutes, Rating: Good

Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Episode 41 is hosted by Dennis, Taxus and Jay as they go over news, the new The Last Jedi trailer, the new tv spot, the “That’s So Wizard” fashion segment, and they have on guest Ryder Waldron to play a little canon or legends game. Good episode, but a side note on the background music – they might want to dial back the volume on the background music a bit as it’s interfering a little with being able to hear everyone.

Talk Star Wars: Episode 94 features Marc, Steve and Paul as they talk discuss the passing of John Mollo, Luke and the dark side, Phasma and Kylo, and Luke seeing this power before. They step away from Star Wars for a moment to talk about their jobs and pets, then dive into the possibility of Dave Filoni doing live action Star Wars. Rob joins them as they continue the discussion, talk The Last Jedi news, DJ comic, Dole getting info wrong, Adam Drive GQ comments, new trailer, and then they step away from Star Wars again for a fun conversation about their favorite movies and guilty pleasure films.

Talk Star Wars ToyBox: Episode 8 starts with a conversation with Mark Newbold as he talks about his Star Wars fandom, Lightsabre, fan fiction, interviews, his Star Wars collection, Star Trek, Jedi News, Star Wars Insider, StarWars.com, De Agostini, getting into podcasts, and his latest endeavor, Fantha Tracks. Afterwards there’s a second conversation, this time with Matt and Danni from Mega Action Playsets as they talk about collecting and how their company came together. Interesting conversations and worth a listen.

TechnoRetro Dads: Awesome Hero Mix 2 (Volume 6) is a bit different from their usual episodes as this one is a collection of super here and super villain themed songs and parody songs. In between there’s some skits and jokes with Shua and Shaz. I listened to a third of it before I stopped as the songs just weren’t my thing, but if you’re into those kinds of songs, you’ll want to check this one out.

The Deucecast Movie Show: Episode 301 features Dave, Mike, Pinky, Dr. Earl and guest Jennifer Kaufman as they kick things off with a movie game, then they discuss their favorite coffee scenes in films, which is a pretty interesting topic and leads to some fun movie discussions. They wrap up with MikeTober as Mike goes over the horror movies he was assigned.

Podcast Network: RetroZap, Runtime: 1 hour 9 minutes, Rating: Good

The Deucecast Movie Show: Episode 302 features Dave, Mike, Pinky, and Dr. Earl as they talk about the movies they’ve recently seen. This includes some recent movies like American Made, Happy Death Day, Jigsaw, The Foreigner, and Thor: Ragnarok. All the discussions are spoiler free, so need to worry about having any surprises ruined.

Podcast Network: RetroZap, Runtime: 1 hour 31 minutes, Rating: Fun

The Geek Supreme: The Fellowship of the Goonies gets into a variety of discussions including fandom vehicles, the Red Sonja reboot, Lord of the Rings TV show, Goonies sequel, and action/adventure movies of the 80’s.
