Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Beltway Banthas: Episode 26 is the audio from their panel at Oak City Comicon. The panel features Stephen, Swara and Nick Dicolandrea from Coffee With Kenobi as they talk real world politics and how politicians have tried to use Star Wars to their advantage. Interesting episode. Audio is pretty good, too.
Blast Points: Interview with Joe Corroney and Brian Miller is a great conversation with both Star Wars artists as they talk about their Celebration prints, the ideas behind them, their art styles and their love of Star Wars.
Brews and Blasters: Episode 114 features Joe and Chris as they touch on Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns,” they get on to Pineapple Express, then head into Celebration. Joe reveals his Denis Lawson plan, they rundown the schedule, what they’re podcast stage plans would have been, then they circle back to “Twin Suns” and carry on into “Zero Hour.” They give a quick recap of Star Wars Rebels season 3, then get into need’em got’em, Star Wars Monopoly, and listener emails. Fun episode.
Coffee With Kenobi: The Road to Celebration with Two Weeks to Go starts out with Dan and Cory talking about Mark Hamill coming to Celebration. Dan reveals he’ll be on “These Are Not the Writers You’re Looking For” panel at Celebration, and they talk about the Coffee With Kenobi podcast stage panel. Afterwards they talk with Steve Sansweet about Celebration, what Rancho Obi-Wan will have on display and what merchandise will be available. Good episode.
Comic Book Noob: The Archie Comics tackles why the Archie comics work and how they’ve changed over the years. They cover the different variants and offer their reading recommendations. It takes on the comics at a higher level, not diving into the individual characters. As someone who has never read an Archie comic, I have to admit I left just as clueless as to begin with on who the characters are in the comics, but they did touch on some of the topics the comics have tried to cover over the years. This one could probably use a follow-up to dive a little deeper into the topic.
Echo Base: Episode 91 is part one of their preparatory guide for Star Wars Celebration. I was branching out and looking for other podcasts who were covering Celebration info and decided to give these guys a try. They cover queuing, lines, the wristbanding, panels, offsite events and con tips which will certainly help give people an idea of what to expect and what to plan for. It’s a bit dry, but informative.
Fauxthentic History: Mother Talzin episode covers one of the most notable members of the Witches of Dathomir. They pull together all of the information from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Darth Maul comic Son of Dathomir in order to create one really nice, cohesive storyline for Mother Talzin. As someone who watched the whole show and read all the comics, this episode definitely helped put all the pieces into perspective to form an image that made a lot more sense. I highly recommend checking this one out.
Full of Sith: Episode CCX is the audio from their panel at FanX. Holly and Bryan talk Star Wars and field questions from the audience covering everything from favorite costumes to lightsaber colors, the Imperial perspective, Vader and the Empire. Fun episode with good audio.
Full of Sith: Episode CCXI starts with the audio from a panel Bryan did with Matt Martin at FanX as Matt fields questions about the story group and Star Wars from the crowd. Excellent audio and some interesting Q&A. Afterwards there is an interview with Doug Chiang covering Rogue One (around the 50 minute mark).
Galactic Fashion: Episode 22 covers their nominations in Star Wars Podcast Awards, they talk Celebration, wardrobe plans and new items. They play an audio clip from Jedi News who interviewed Po-Zu. Then Teresa and Johnamarie talk with Amanda Jean about outfits, con fashion tips, makeup tips, pin tips and more. Good episode.
Hangin’ With Team Kanan: Episode 33 is hosted by Johnamarie and Jeremy as they share their thoughts on the season 3 finale of Star Wars Rebels. They breakdown the two part episode, dive into the enigma of the Bendu, weigh Sato’s sacrifice, and even get into some Lord of the Rings references. Good episode.
Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 101 is Tim’s top 5 favorite lines from Attack of the Clones.
Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 102 Tim laments not going to Star Wars Celebration Orlando and deliberates on whether next time should be different.
Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 103 his hijacked by Tim’s son Declan as he shares the wonder of the Shepard Tone. If you can endure more than 20 seconds, you’re an earbud warrior. Or deaf. Maybe sadistic? Note this was their April Fool’s episode.
Less Than 12 Parsecs: Episode 104 it Tim’s gut reactions to the trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures season two.
Rebel Yell: Zero Hour features Steve, Teresa, Erich and Aaron Goins as they discuss the season 3 finale of Star Wars Rebels. They tackle questions like whether Kallus should have died, why Thrawn kept him alive, and whether Thrawn and Tarkin are rivals. They go over the characters, the important moments of the episode and more. Good discussion. Plus there’s details on their planned podcast meetup at Star Wars Celebration.
Rock Out Led (Rock Out Loud): Led Zeppelin II Side A begins Steve and Jimmy’s discussion of Led Zeppelin’s second album. They go through the first half track-by-track with audio clips and commentary. Fun episode.
Rumor Control (Full of Sith): Episode 7 strays away from possible movie spoilers and instead dives into the rumors surrounding the possibility of a re-release of the original theatrical versions of the Star Wars films. From the announcement of the 40th anniversary panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando to the wild reactions online, Bobby tracks down the source of the rumors. On top of that, he explores the possibility of whether it could be done and goes through the history of the re-releases of the films. Fun episode.
Skytalkers: This Galactic Life: The Celebration Experience is another new podcast I tried out this week in search of Celebration discussion. This podcast is hosted by Charlotte and Caitlin and in this episode they talk about their past Celebration experiences and costuming plans. Then they’re joined by guest Savanna Kiefer (The Dorky Diva) who talks about the 501st Legion, costuming and Celebration tips. Afterwards they have on guest Scott Murray (Assembly of Geeks) as they continue the Celebration conversation. Good episode with good audio, good production quality and good hosts. I’ll be checking this one out again.
Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode 162 provides details on the new time for the Skywalking Through Neverland podcast stage panel and details on the buttons they’ll be offering. Then they talk with Spencer Brinkerhoff III as they talk Star Wars Celebration, artists, and Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns” and “Zero Hour.” Good episode. I always like hearing Spencer’s insights into Rebels.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 993 features a conversation with Bobby Roberts on Rogue One. Rather than going into specifics, they focus on the big picture and cover the aspects of filmmaking, marketing and impact. Plus they squeeze in a little Transformers. Note this is part one of their conversation.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 994 is part two of Allen and Bobby’s conversation on Rogue One. I went ahead and listened to both episodes back-to-back and it’s a good listen. Worth checking out.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 995 is a Star Wars Celebration Orlando update with a rundown of guests and authors.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1000 features Allen and his wife Lani as they celebrate the 1000th episode of Star Wars 7×7. They talk a little about Celebration, future plans and The Force Awakens trivia book that Allen is working on. Fun episode.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1001 covers Han Solo casting news, Woody Harrelson’s comments and Bob Iger’s details on the film.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1002 steps away from Star Wars as Allen talks about Pablo Hidalgo heading up a story group for Transformers and some of the future films for the franchise. Note this is their April Fool’s episode.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1003 is an update on The Last Jedi following up on the sizzle reel shown at CinemaCon, as well as casting news, cameos, Rey’s new look, and more cameo rumors and leaks. Nothing too spoilery for those who are worried.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1004 goes over the “Tell that to Kanjiklub” moment from The Force Awakens and how it was expanded upon in the Poe Dameron comic. Plus there’s a little on Han and Leia’s estrangement.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 1005 covers Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia. Note this is the first of a couple planned episodes to cover the book, so this one doesn’t get into too much detail as Allen goes over the general feel of the book with some praise, but also a little reservation. I’m interested to hear Allen dig into this one.
Star Wars Bookworms: Episode 71 covers Celebration. Aaron and Teresa talk about their podcast meetup details (Saturday 8:30 PM in Disney Springs at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, no tickets needed), buttons, and they go through the panels and events for Star Wars Celebration Orlando.
Talk Star Wars: Episode 63 features Marc, Rob and Steve as they pitch their ideas for a Kenobi film, they touch on Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns,” Rey’s vision and whether it was a flash forward or a flashback, the Knights of Ren, why we see a young Anakin Force ghost and whether that is the version we would see again, which leads to a cool Force ghost discussion. Good stuff. They talk about Luke communing with Anakin and whether that could have made Kylo jealous, driving him away and toward the ruined helmet of Darth Vader for insight. They also cover the chosen one, Celebration, Bob Iger’s comments on Carrie Fisher, an update on the Force tree in The Last Jedi, the new gorilla AT-AT walker, casting news, and Han Solo movie news via Woody Harrelson and Bob Iger. Great episode. If you’re worried about the possible spoiler stuff at the end, you should be fine. It’s nothing too spoilery.
TechnoRetro Dads: Good Morning, Captain Kangaroo starts with some jokes, gets into cereal, then they talk Q*bert, Chuck Berry and Chuck Barris, and Captain Kangaroo. Fun episode.
The Dorky Diva Show: Episode 6 is yet another new podcast I checked out this week. After hearing Savanna on Skytalkers, I hunted down her podcast. In this episode she talks with Brian Ballance about a bunch of topics. From his new bike and Celebration, to Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns” and “Zero Hour.” Savanna also shares details on the Dorky Diva Show meetup at the Rosen Centre Hotel lobby on Friday at 7:00 PM for anyone who is interested. Pretty good show. I’ll have to keep this one on my radar.
The Sandcrawler: Episode 20 begins with some Celebration discussion as they talk about guests and panels, what they’re looking forward to, and the collecting panels. They also talk with Jake Stevens about Celebration tips for the dealer floor. Afterwards they step away from Celebration to get into Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns” and “Zero Hour.” However, fair warning, they weren’t head over heels for these two episodes so there’s a good amount of criticism. Good episode.
Toy Run: Episode 53 starts with some Rogue One discussion as they talk about the special features on the home release. Then they get into Celebration as they talk about Space Club and the other Star Wars collecting podcast that will be at the con. They discuss swag, the idea of a subscription service for Hasbro, and they get into Star Wars Rebels “Zero Hour.” Last but not least, Gus Lopez talks with them about the Collecting Track. Good episode.
TSW Round Table: Episode 3 features Robert Cast, Rob from Generation X-Wing, Tim from The Nerd Room, and listeners Robert Philips and James Woron. They tackle Padme’s death, whether Luke Skywalker could go closer to the dark side, and the odd reactions to Star Wars from people who are seemingly indifferent to it.
