Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Assembly of Geeks: Reactions to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them starts with some discussion of playing pretend as kids, some news, they go through the superhero movies of 2017, then share their thoughts on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, pretty spoiler free, and their thoughts on who would play a young Dumbledore. Good episode, informative and fun.
Bombad Radio: A Bombad Happy Thanksgiving is hosted by James and Steve aka Fudge Ripple as they share Thanksgiving stories. The audio is a bit rough but it’s nostalgic for long time listeners of the show. I thought it was a fun one but if you’re a new listener, you might not get as much out of it.
Bombad Radio: Episode 259 covers The Chronicles of Riddick. This one is more of a review of the film, a critique, and a look at the overall franchise with a couple comparisons to Star Wars. It’s really light on the Star Wars ties, but if you’re a Riddick fan, you might want to check this one out.
Children of the Force: Episode #53 begins with some discussion of the His Dark Materials book trilogy which they’re reading, then they talk Giacchino and Rogue One music, the Boba Fett movie and they play some audio from a previous episode going over their Star Wars movie line stories, and their predictions on who will survive Rogue One. If you’ve listened to the episode where they talked about waiting in lines, you can either skip the rest of this episode once you get there or fast forward to the end to get to their survival predictions.
Comic Book Noob: Squirrel Girl covers a comic character who I’m not very familiar with but one that I have seen which makes this one a great episode. It’s always fun learning about new comic book characters. They go over her origins, her mutant powers, the villains she’s defeated, her trading cards and their recommended reading choices.
Disney Vault Talk: Home on the Range starts with listener questions, Teresa’s Disney trip, they talk about the vault, the Beauty and the Beast trailer, Cars 3, the eras of Disney films, Bob Eiger’s role at Disney, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and then they review Home on the Range. Fun episode.
Fauxthentic History: The Tale of Beren and Lúthien – Part 1 dives into some Lord of the Rings lore as they recount this classic tale that predates the adventures of Bilbo and Frodo but sheds some light on the flashback scenes of ancient history. Nice episode for LOTR fans.
Fly Casual: Episode 114 starts with news as they go over Amelia Clarke joining the Han Solo cast, Harrison Ford’s reaction to The Princess Diarist book, film size, Colin Trevorrow comments, new Maul comic, and then they head into toys with the new Disney Elite Series Premium figures, Death Star speaker, LEGO advent calendar, new Funko Pops and the Death Star popcorn maker. Fun episode as usual.
Fly Casual: Episode 115 opens with Christmas singing, Mike and his thighs and other off topic ramblings as they go long on the intro. Then they review Poe Dameron #8, Star Wars Rebels “Imperial Super Commandos,” and a spoiler free review of Catalyst. The Glee Club has a Star Wars Christmas song, then they go into rumors with Tarkin, Benicio Del Toro and more. Might be a bit more spoilery than you want to get into if you’re avoiding any possible spoilers.
Full of Sith: Episode CXCIII features Bryan, Bobby, Chris Taylor and Anthony Breznican as they talk Star Wars, history and politics with a lot of real world ties. This one is very much influenced by current events, aka Trump and Rogue One serving as a hopeful political message for those coping with the election.
Full of Sith: Special Release Propaganda by Pablo Hidalgo features a nice interview between Bryan and Pablo as they go over Pablo’s new book, how the project came about, artist bios and including Sabine.
Geek Out Loud: Episode 198 is a Pass the Corn episode with Erich as he and Steve go through the movies that came out in November, movie anniversaries, Strangers Things 2, and they share their thoughts on X-Men: Apocalypse, the new Ghostbusters, Jack Reacher 2 and Star Trek: Beyond. Fun episode.
Hangin’ With Team Kanan: Episode 21 reviews Star Wars Rebels “The Antilles Extraction,” a little Rogue One trailer discussion, Rogue Friday acquisitions and some non-spoiler discussion of the Ahsoka novel.
Hangin’ With Team Kanan: Episode 24 reviews Star Wars Rebels “Imperial Super Commandos” with a lot of positivity.
Rebel Force Radio: Episode 12.2.2016 covers the first 20 minutes of Rogue One as seen by a fellow listener, which I have to admit I fast forwarded through as I’m avoiding spoilers. Then they take a lot of time to go over Carrie Fisher’s book The Princess Diarist with audio clips from the audiobook. They talk Rogue One news and they also touch base on Breznican’s Kenobi speculation and the headlines that generated. Good episode.
Star Wars 7×7: Episode 870 features an interview with podcaster Tim McMahon as they talk about how he got into podcasting, his podcasting history, and how Less Than 12 Parsecs came about. Nice interview and fun idea as Allen plans on interviewing more podcasters in the future. Looking forward to them.
Star Wars Action News: Episode 488 is a pre-Black Friday episode so they started off going over all the Black Friday Star Wars sales. However, it’s still worth checking out as afterwards they go into Star Wars gift ideas for all budgets.
Talk Star Wars: Episode #51 covers a bunch of topics including tattoos and snow leopards, what actor would play them in a Star Wars movie, what Star Wars characters would smoke and what they would smoke, Boba Fett, gravity in Star Wars, blaster bolt colors, maps, the galaxy and The Force Awakens, standalone film directors they’d like, an Ahsoka movie, Episode VIII titles, will of the Force and Bail sending Leia to Tatooine, and possible Rogue One leak on the movie’s opening. From serious discussions to fun ones, they keep it entertaining.
The 602 Club: Episode 106 features guests Alice Baker and Aaron Goins as they review Doctor Strange. Matthew was a little critical on Doctor Strange so it opens the conversation up to some different angles as they talk about what did and didn’t work for them. They go over the characters, the storyline, the special effects and the soundtrack for some complete coverage.
