S.H. Figuarts is kicking some serious butt in the toy market with their awesome First Order Stormtrooper. The thing looks awesome, is highly poseable, and blows everything else in the same scale out of the water.
Like the other S.H. Figuarts figures, you get several sets of hands. In this case their is a pair of fists, a pair of open hands, and a pair of blaster holding hands. The figure only comes with one weapon, the Sonn-Blas F-11D blaster rifle. So that does give a point in Hasbro’s favor as their 6-inch Black Series figure also comes with the Sonn-Blas SE-44C blaster pistol.
The figure looks great with an excellent attention to detail. From the coloring of the armor to the scale and shape of the overall figure, it looks top notch.
All of the articulation, and the basic design of the S.H. Figuarts figure, allows for a lot of poseability and freedom of movement. From casual poses…
It passes the chair test with flying colors.
Now for a closer look at the figure.
The knee cap armor can pop off, so be careful when playing with the figure as the part can be hard to find if it falls off. It stays in place pretty good, but it caught me by surprise when it popped off once when I was outside. Luckily I was able to find it.
The shoulder armor is moveable, which helps with posing and raising the arms.
The pouches at the waist are articulated which keeps them from getting in the way.
Here’s a shot of the back of the figure.
So how does it compare against Hasbro?
First off, there is an interesting different in the color of the plastic. The S.H. Figuarts figure is an eggshell white, matching the First Order Stormtroopers in The Force Awakens. The 6-inch Black Series Hasbro figure is more of an arctic white. It’s also a little taller.
Both figures have a lot of the same details, however the S.H. Figuarts figure just looks better.
When it comes to articulation, the Hasbro figures becomes really lame, really fast. The non-articulated pouches restrict the leg movement. The arms are limited in what they can do. In each and every way, the articulation of the S.H. Figuarts figure is better.
So far S.H. Figuarts has really impressed me with their Star Wars line. I keep adding new figures, and each time they prove to be far better than anything Hasbro is doing. They do cost more, and the First Order Stormtrooper will cost you close to $50, but it’s worth it.
Bottom line, the S.H. Figuarts First Order Stormtrooper is a great figure. While it might be too pricey to troop build, it makes for a great high end figure in the 1:12 scale.
