There are a lot of toymakers jumping into the 6-inch scale Star Wars market, which means Hasbro has some serious competition. Unlike previous decades, they are no longer uncontested in the realm of Star Wars action figures. Of those stepping into the ring is S.H. Figuarts, a high quality action figure line made by Bandai. They’ve made a few figures so far, but the one that stole my eye was their Obi-Wan Kenobi. Quite simply, this is a gorgeous figure and an example of what toys can be when done right.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: January 5 Minicast features a great conversation with Verona Blue who talks about being a 501st member and her role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Verona is a 16 year veteran of the legion, one of the original members of Canadian Garrison, and has a great story to tell about working TFA. She covers her stint at theater school in England, moving to LA to get into movies, some of the acting she’s done, and what her experience doing voice over work for TFA was like considering she’s now the voice of the first female stormtrooper (aside from Phasma). Great audio and a great guest make this a great episode. Be sure to give it a listen.

501stCast: Know A Legion Episode 1 Minicast features a fun conversation with the commander of the Outer Rim Garrison. Terry talks about how his unit was formed, events they’ve done, memorable moments, and upcoming events. Again, great audio quality, and an interesting interview. Worth a listen.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 000 covers their favorite small moments from Star Wars, what moments in Star Wars: The Clone Wars that sold them on the show, what moments sold them on Star Wars Rebels, and they set the expectations for their podcast. A light but fun discussion and a short episode at just 25 minutes. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Movie Review: ‘Deadpool’

February 13, 2016 at 10:55 am | Posted in Marvel, Movies, Reviews | Leave a comment

Deadpool has arrived and it did not disappoint. Quite simply, this is a violent, crude, hilarious movie about an R-rated superhero mercenary with a mouth. He’s out for revenge, love and laughs. And on top of it all, Ryan Reynolds was a perfect match for the character.

First off, it was easy to tell this movie was going to be good from the get go. The opening credits kick start the humor with lines like “Produced by Asshats” and “Directed by an overpaid tool” while showing a freeze shot of the tumbling car and carnage within complete with Deadpool giving a guy a wedgie. The humor carries through the entire movie with one liners, jokes, sight gags and funny moments. Even the credits have humor with a little cartoon Deadpool throwing in more laughs while riding on a unicorn, and yes, there’s an end credit scene so stay until the end and be rewarded with Deadpool in his bathrobe and tease about sequels. The Great Podcast Diaspora of 2016

February 11, 2016 at 12:04 am | Posted in Podcasts, Star Wars | Leave a comment

For listeners of Rebel Force Radio, their move off of Shotglass Digital may have messed up your listening habits as all their associated Star Wars podcasts got split up and moved off to other sites and feeds. I know I’m still recuperating from the reorganization—whether it’s updating iTunes subscriptions or bookmarking the new sites—so I thought it might be handy to create a little guide to help other listeners track down their favorite shows now that they’ve moved to new places.

Fangirls Going Rogue

Fangirls Going Rogue now has their own website and a fancy new banner. With the same great hosts, it’s now easier than ever to find all their episodes to make sure you don’t miss out on any. Continue Reading The Great Podcast Diaspora of 2016…

Roqoo Depot Galleria Spotlight: Gabriele Dell’Otto

One of the best things I can say about the Star Wars license moving to Marvel is some of the truly amazing artwork we’ve seen with the cover art. One artist in particular who really stands out is Gabriele Dell’Otto. Born in 1973, this 42 year old Italian artist has a remarkable skill with paints that makes comic covers look like fine art. And that’s because they are. Both an author and an illustrator, Dell’Otto has done covers for Marvel, DC, IPP, Egmont Ehapa and MG Publishing as well as scientific illustrations and historical calendars. But the thing that caught my eye was the variant covers he did for Marvel’s Princess Leia mini-series. They’re absolutely gorgeous. So today we’re spotlighting the Star Wars artwork of Gabriele Dell’Otto. Enjoy!
