Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
501stCast: Episode 88 touches base with the trooper who finished walking around Australia and the trooper who trekked from San Francisco to San Diego. Then they recap their Star Wars Celebration experiences and play a live segment they did at the con. Wrapping things up is troop reports and upcoming events. Great way to catch up with the legion. Lots of good content in this episode.
Coffee With Kenobi: Ultimate Star Wars Book Chat features authors Adam Bray and Tricia Barr as Dan and Corey interview them about the book Ultimate Star Wars. It was a good interview but I do want to note there were a couple audio issues with overlapping audio and one lengthy pause. Otherwise a good episode.
Comics With Kenobi: Episode 1 is hosted by Jeff and Matt as they talk a little about themselves and their comic fandom then dive into Star Wars comics. They go over all the Marvel Star Wars series that are currently out and talk a little about the latest issues. With there not being that many Star Wars comic podcasts out there (in fact I actually don’t know of any dedicated solely to Star Wars comics), this podcast definitely fills a niche that’s been longing for some attention.
Comics With Kenobi: Episode 2 includes some discussion on Kanan – The Last Padawan, the prices of digital comics, Green Leader, and the “Mark Hamil Can Handle” song. They talk with Todd Allen who provides some excellent insight into the pricing of digital comics versus physical copies and why the prices are the same as well as actual numbers on profits and overhead. They talk with Daniel Warren Johnson, the artist and creator of Green Leader, who talks about why he did the project and the idea behind it. Lastly, they talk with Chris Cape who created the “Mark Hamil Can Handle” song which is featured on the show. With a lot of interviews and great content, this episode is definitely worth a listen.
Fangirl Chat: Princess Leia and Padme Are Awesome follows up on Star Wars Celebration Anaheim with Teresa and Tricia sharing things about the con and their experiences. They talk about some of the panels they were on and share some audio clips. However, I had some issues with the audio because the sound from the panels made it very hard to hear the people who were speaking whereas the audience noise was very audible. Thus if you crank it up to hear the people, your ears get blasted out when anyone claps. You might want to skip this one.
Fangirl Chat: It’s A Jurassic World was a little disappointing. I really enjoyed the move and was looking forward to listening to this episode, but unfortunately Teresa was the only one who really enjoyed the film. Tricia and Kay were very critical of it, and it kind of killed my joy.
Fangirl Chat: Teaching With Geekdom features Tricia, Teresa and special guest Sandra Choute as they talk about teaching, kids and Star Wars. With Teresa and Sandra both being teachers, they talk about the ways they’ve used Star Wars to reach out to their students. Interesting episode.
Fly Casual: Episode 45 is a review and rumors episode. They review Kanan – The Last Padawan #3 and then dive into some rumors about Warwick Davis, Greg Grunberg, Forest Whitaker, and more. I stopped once they got to Leia rumors as that was deeper than I wanted to go into spoiler territory. Up until that point, it was a good show, so listen at your own risk.
RebelForce Radio: Episode 6.18.2015 is part one of their SDCC Star Wars panel coverage as they go over the events of the panel and play audio highlights from the guests. This episode also kicks off with a discussion on the outlandish news story of an outraged dad and the Princess Leia 6-inch Black Series figures. Fun episode as always.
RebelForce Radio: Episode 6.20.2015 is part two of their SDCC Star Wars panel coverage. This one starts with another bit of controversy, the Amy Schumer GQ Star Wars photo shoot. Then they finish off their discussion of the SDCC panel and have guest Steele Saunders on to go in depth on what it was like being there, what the crowd was like, the line and the overall experience. Excellent episode wrapping up their SDCC Star Wars panel coverage. Steele was a really good guest and had a lot of nice insight.
Star Wars Bookworms: Episode 43 starts with some updates, some comic news and listener feedback. Then they review Sabine’s Rebel Sketchbook which is pretty cool as I haven’t checked it out yet and they do a really good job of giving readers an idea of what to expect.
