Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks:Captain America, Trekkies & Anomalies” episode has a nice discussion of Captain America: The Winter Soldier complete with themed intro. They dig into their thoughts on the movie, how it stacks up against the previous Marvel movies and they keep it light on spoilers. Later, they talk with special guest Jen Rhodes from the Anomaly Podcast who talks about her fandom, podcasting, Star Wars and more heavily, Star Trek. Capping things off, they talk about two Star Wars themed tv episodes (The Big Bang Theory and The Goldbergs) and some other movie news. An entertaining show and worth listening to for lots of fun geeky discussion. The Trek talk actually got me fired up to watch some Star Trek, so fair warning, you may need to set some tv time aside after listening to this show.

Bombad Radio: Episode 138 continues their discussion of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, this time diving into Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy. Unfortunately Jeremiah is absent on this episode. The hosts do a decent job of covering the books without revealing too much or anything too spoilery, so if you’re a new reader, you can still listen without any worries. That said, it was kind of an average show. I didn’t really get into it too much. It would have been nice if they could have probed some more interesting details or topics concerning the three best Star Wars novels ever written.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #16 features special guest Consetta Parker and a fun chat about her love for Star Wars, why it’s special, and how she ended up marrying a stormtrooper. It’s a nice interview and a good way to round out their interviews with the Full of Sith podcast hosts, though, they could still do one with Bobby in order to cover them all. Beyond that, they cover some listener feedback and The Bearded Trio weighs in with some more Jurassic World news.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #6 includes discussion of Star Wars Weekends, some quick fashion tips, what they’re looking forward to product wise in Star Wars, and some discussion of the Star Wars Rebels character Hera. Plus they have an excellent interview with Andrea Letamendi who talks Star Wars, Batman and Darth Vader. Will you find three more engaging women on a podcast? I think not, unless you make it four, cause if they tossed in Amy Ratcliffe they might very well conquer the podcasting world. Be that as it may, this was another great show and worth listening to.

Full of Sith: Episode LX is the Han Solo show. I have to admit, I think I hyped myself up too much for this one. The last episode had a really good Solo tease and I was expecting a bit more than what we got. It’s not a bad discussion, but for me, it didn’t get really good until they got to the listener feedback toward the end. That’s when they broke out Bobby’s comment about Han Solo being a murderer and discussing the whole Han Shot first thing. Before that juicy discussion, they focused a lot on Bobby’s view of Han Solo being a less interesting character in Return of the Jedi. Bobby referred to Han as the sitcom dad. Basically it was a batter of Han being sanded down and losing all his edges which were shown in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. I certainly don’t fall in that camp and I’m a lot more in line with Mike and Bryan on this one. For me, Han Solo was always cool and I had no problem with his portrayal in Return of the Jedi.

RebelForce Radio: Episode 4.11.2014 covers the Peter Mayhew rumor about him returning as Chewbacca and Jimmy calls this one pretty much confirmed as the rumors are from credible sources and carry a lot of weight. They talk about Lando’s new Rebels show, and it isn’t Star Wars, Alan Horn’s filming comment, and they have a great interview with Christian Taylor. Christian was a head writer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and he talks about working with George Lucas, writing the Mortis episodes, the Yoda arc, and more. I really enjoyed the interview and recommend putting this one on your playlist if you haven’t listened to it already.

Star Wars Beyond the Films: Episode #118 focuses on Star Wars author Aaron Allston. Mark and Nathan talk about Aaron’s contributions to the Star Wars Expanded Universe, their thoughts on his books, and their thoughts on Aaron as a Star Wars storyteller. I was a little surprised at how both Nathan and Mark seemed to think that Aaron wrote more stories than he did considering Aaron has written more adult Star Wars novels than any other author. Still, it’s interesting to reflect on Aaron’s work and how it has added to the mythos of Star Wars. It’s also sad to think we won’t be getting any more Star Wars books with his name on the cover. Aaron will most definitely be missed.

Star Wars Bookworms: Episode #22 includes special guest Bryan Young as they talk about fandom, Ewoks, Return of the Jedi, the EU, Peter Mayhew’s rumored return and what that in itself could mean for the EU. They also talk about the Star Wars Bookworms book club and about the Her Universe fangirl of the day before diving into Joe Schreiber’s Maul: Lockdown novel. That part of the show gets heavy into Darth Maul’s character, the way the book works with the prequels and how it ties into James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis. They cover some of the other characters in the book, it’s cinematic themes, and Joe’s writing style. Very fun episode to listen to with lots of great content.
