urlWell folks it has finally happened we have some official info on Episode VII.  In this link from a StarWars.com tweet it confirms filming will begin in May and the following tidbit:

It has also been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces. No further details on casting or plot are available at this time.

So a trio of new young stars and around 30 years after RotJ!!  Let the speculation begin!!

  1. Would be Jacen, Jaina, and ?

Ben and Anakin would be pretty young for 30 years after, but it’s not like that would stop Disney from turning it into a kids movie :(

Let’s hope it’s not that…though then I am curious as to who the 3rd young lead is.

  2. Wait, scratch that. Brain fart there. Ben would likely be way too small, but it would be right around Anakin’s death, so it could be all 3 of the Solo kids, though that would mean that it’d be right in the middle of the Vong War. That would definitely sound epic enough for Disney to be tempted to use that setting/plot. That could be an excellent story arc to launch a new trilogy with since it would leave you with the rise and fall of Caedus too wrap up the trilogy with and a LOT of action against the Vong invasion the whole way through.

Am I way off base here?

  3. With ROTJ being 4 ABY, that would place Episode VII around 34 ABY. From the perspective of the books, that’s in between The Unifying Force (29 ABY) and The Dark Nest I: The Joiner King (35 ABY). I’d definitely bet on Jaina and Jacen like characters and a Luke Skywalker offspring.

  4. Well we have to remember that none of the EU counts. So if it is Jacen and Jaina it will be Lucasfilm’s version of those characters not what we saw in the books. That is also why a child of Luke’s could work as well. Lucasfilm will not adhere to what a novel laid out.

  5. Yeah, I was thinking since they said “about 30 years” it was possibly Anakin instead of Ben, but that might have just been my wishful thinking hoping that they weren’t going to go all Episode 1 with the youngest lead and instead utilize the Vong War for an epic story killing off Anakin and setting up the Jacen/Jaina faceoff later in the trilogy. I’m going to cross my fingers and hope it’s not Star Wars 7: Ben’s Tiny Adventure with Jacen and Jaina more in the background.

  6. iloveewoks, I’m going to choose to pigheadedly engage in some denial and hope they aren’t really going to largely toss the EU content around characters this major. Especially with Jacen and Jaina, I don’t know if they could write the events around their lives much better than the EU already has.

  7. I mean, if they wanted to toss something like “Shatterpoint” and rewrite the jungle adventures of Mace Windo to release sometime later (obviously not talking about Ep7 now)…ok. No big loss there even though I really enjoyed that book, but it’s not going to wreck whole vital story arcs.

  8. I completely understand where you are coming from. But I really do think we are going to be seeing quite a few changes to the whole EU.

  10. I hope if there are EU characters, they’ll be either Jacen, Jaina, and Tenel Ka or Jacen, Jaina, and Zekk. That would be sorta AotC, but I’m okay with that.
