Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Assembly of Geeks: “Guardian of the Plastic Galaxy” covers the newly released trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy which, I agree, looks awesome. In this episode they also have a really nice interview with Brian Stillman, the creator of Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys, a documentary covering the old Kenner Star Wars action figures. Other topics in this show stick with the theme of movies like Her, Fantastic Four, and The Lego Movie.
“Animated & Geeky Characters” episode kicks off with a discussion on laser tag before heading into old cartoons, tv shows like Firefly and Big Bang Theory, and recent tv news like a Robin Hood and Flash remake. The show caps off with a RoboCop review. Since I haven’t seen RoboCop yet, I skipped the end of the podcast, but I definitely enjoyed the rest.
Big Pop Fun: Episode 99 is another James Arnold Taylor “Podcaster in Training” episode. This time James talks with Jason Surrell, a Disney imagineer. Jason talks about working for Disney, writing the history of the Haunted Mansion, meeting the Avengers on set, and working with Johnny Depp. It’s a very cool interview and worth checking out.
Coffee with Kenobi: Episode 13 features special guest Jeff McGee (Admiral 80’s from Assembly of Geeks) as they touch on the culture and psychology of collecting, the favorite Star Wars items, and feedback on the new Star Wars toys revealed at Toy Fair. All in all, a very fun discussion for casual and hardcore collectors, or even those just sitting on the sidelines and observing the phenomena.
Full of Sith: Episode LIII starts off with some listener feedback on fan casting, Jennifer Lawrence, drunk thoughts on The Empire Strikes Back, and the quality expectations of Star Wars Rebels. Then they come back to Mike’s argument for Sith Yoda. They end with a Vader discussion. Lots of fun topics and enjoyable as always.
Star Wars Bookworms: Episode 19 has a great interview with comic writer and artist Zack Giallongo covering his Star Wars comic Ewoks: Shadows of Endor. Zack also talks about his favorite Star Wars character, film, film moment, and even mentions that he will be doing another Star Wars comic but it may be a while before it comes out. Definitely worth a listen. Great audio quality, great questions and a great show.
Star Wars Collectors Cast: Special Report New York Toy Fair 2014 episode has a full rundown on all the reveals and showcased Star Wars items at the show. From Black Series to JAKKS Pacific, they cover it all.
Star Wars Report: Episode 122 is hosted by Riley and Teresa Delgado as they cover some quick topics on gender representation in Star Wars regarding the rollout of the Star Wars Rebels characters and action figures.
