Launching in February 2012 the latest Star Wars comic from Dark Horse will go back to the beginning and tell the origins of the Jedi.  Described as the “coolest Star Wars comic ever,” Dawn of the Jedi will take place at the beginning of the Star Wars timeline and the Jedi Knights — before lightsabers.  John Ostrander is the writer for Dawn.

The announcement came at NYCC Retailers Breakfast.  Along with Dawn of the Jedi Dark Horse also announced Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: War from John Jackson Miller and Darth Vader: Ghost Prison, a five issue mini-series by Haden Blackman and Agustin Alessio (deluxe hardcover to follow).  In addition you can look forward to Star Wars: Knight Errant 3 and  Star Wars: Blood Ties (Tom Taylor and Chris Scalf).  Blood Ties headline reads “Boba Fett Is Dead.”

UPDATE: Randy Stradley revealed the following on Dark Horse’s forumtoday…

“Oh, I should also mention that if you think this is all of our announcements of new things coming in 2012, you have another think coming. We’ve got at least one more big announcement for next summer…Oh, yeah — and you haven’t even seen Agent of the Empire and Crimson Empire III yet!”

So stay tuned for the next big reveal at NYCC!
