Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Card Trader Illuminerdi: While there’s a handful of Star Wars podcasts I listen to on a regular basis, I try to branch out and listen to new ones every now and then. And yes, I do follow through on suggested ones (so feel free to hit me up with your suggestions). I got a poke on Facebook suggesting I listen to Card Trader Illuminerdy, so I did. First off, these guys live up to their name. They go in deep on the Star Wars Topps Trading App covering new cards, upcoming releases, and even the odds on different cards. Unfortunately if you’re unfamiliar to the trading app (like me) the discussion quickly gets overwhelming. I couldn’t really follow along with a lot of the stuff they were talking about. But, if you’re a big fan of the app, this may be the podcast you’re looking for. It’s certainly the only podcast I’ve heard of focusing on the game, they’ve got a good mix of hosts, good audio quality, and there’s some nice additions of humor and information. In particular, I checked out the July.17.2015 Episode.

Coffee With Kenobi: Coffee Chat with Pablo Hidalgo features a conversation with Pablo covering storytelling, Star Wars, and insight on the story group. I especially enjoyed hearing his comments on how they’re handling Vader as a character. The only downside to the episode is that Pablo’s audio is a little crummy, everyone else is fine. Still worth a listen.

Comic Book Noob: Ant-Man episode is a nice little episode that provides some background on the main characters in the Ant-Man comics, their many iterations, and how it ties into the film. It doesn’t spoil anything and for anyone unfamiliar with Ant-Man (like me) it gives some much needed insight on the character and the series without diving too deep into the subject matter and getting bogged down. It stays light, informational, entertaining, and gives just the right about of info for fans new to the character. I have to say the Comic Book Noob episodes are a great thing to check out. I’m really enjoying them so far.

Book News

  • Kevin J. Anderson and Timothy Zahn will be part of a six author team writing tie-in novellas for Heroes Reborn. The first novella will be out in September.
  • Jedi News provided an update on Roger Christian’s upcoming book Cinema Alchemist. There is currently a crowdfunding project to raise money for a feature film version of his short film Black Angel. Part of the crowdfunding is signed copies of his book. Interesting to see they’re trying to get Rutger Hauer in the film.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 173 features special guest David Collins as they talk about his podcast Star Wars Oxygen, whether they’ll cover video game music, Sam Witwer’s lyrics to The Force Unleashed music, how Republic Commando was slightly inspired by Halo, the limitations of memory on video game music, doing the sound work for the amazing Star Wars: The Old Republic trailers, Darth Malgus being voiced by Julian Glover’s son (Julian Glover being General Veers from The Empire Strikes Back) and much more. Whether it’s mixing sound for video games or recounting the old days when Sam Witwer would just hang out, Dave covers a lot of territory and fun stories. Awesome episode.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXXVIII features the hosts of Fangirls Going Rogue Teresa Delgado and Tricia Barr as they join Mike, Bryan and Bobby for some really interesting conversations. Chief among them is their discussion of Star Wars Rebels, it’s placement on DisneyXD, ratings, marketing it as a boy’s show when there’s a significant female audience, they paywall, and whether it can get a season 3 if it stays on DisneyXD. They they have a character discussion on Darth Bane, the creator of the rule of two, as Teresa educates everyone on his background, what he did to make him so memorable, and the books by Drew Karpyshyn. Really nice episode and definitely one to check out.

Episode XC features guest Pablo Hidalgo as they talk about the dark times, how Pablo was introduced to Star Wars, sharing memories of their fandom, and much more. Very cool interview and well worth listening to. Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

Then they talk about the leaked Deadpool test footage with Ryan Reynolds and cover some other news and rumors. The main discussion, however, is Guardians of the Galaxy which all three hosts managed to see. They share their thoughts and how they thought it ranked with the other Marvel movies.

They cover the leaked Deadpool footage featuring Ryan Reynolds, Age of Ultron news, lots of SDCC stuff, a strange Spider-Man statue in Korea, other Spider-Man news, Flash, Gotham, Mad Max: Fury Road, Sinister 6, Wonder Woman, Dwayne Johnson and even a little bit about Agent Carter. It’s a jam packed movie and tv discussion episode.

Coffee with Kenobi:A Cup of Clone Wars – The Disappeared Parts I & II” features special guests Laird Malamed (Indy Cast) and Chris Hamilton (Star Wars Kidscast) as they cover the Jar Jar/Mace episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Six. From Mace’s treatment of Jar Jar, the music, Mother Talzin and all the Indy nods, they cover a wide range of topics. Fun discussion to check out.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXVII is a great show features guests Dan and Cory from Coffee with Kenobi. The whole gang weighs in on Star Wars Rebels, Kevin Kiner, Greg Weisman and even some Leia discussion. Lots of great topics and definitely worth checking out.

It’s official, the new series from Filoni and company is Star Wars Rebels, and production has already begun.  A one hour special on the Disney channel will launch Star Wars Rebels in the fall of 2014, followed by the series on Disney XD.

The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen.Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.

Recap of the Pablo Chat

May 3, 2013 at 3:05 pm | Posted in Books, Del Rey, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a comment

Pablo Hidalgo did a live chat on Star Wars Books’ Facebook page which you can check out here. Below you’ll find our easy to read, edited version.

Pablo Hidalgo: Greetings from sunny (surprisingly!) San Francisco.

PH: I think the EU will always continue to be part of the Star Wars experience, in that there are stories that are best suited for books, comics, games. etc.. The relationship between cinematic content and expanded universe content will continue to be what it is today and has been in the past. What happens on screen is one thing. What happens in the books is another. How they connect and interact is something I’m really eager to see.

Can you share one of the wackier canon or continuity issues you’ve had to deal with? Continue Reading Recap of the Pablo Chat…
