One Look at the New Direction of Lucasfilm

March 12, 2013 at 4:53 pm | Posted in Opinion, Star Wars, Television, The Clone Wars | 1 Comment

StarWars.com broke some big news yesterday. At the time, we decided to just report the news when it broke, but today I’m going to take a deeper look. Breaking down the announcement piece-by-piece, I’ll provide my opinion on what I think it really means for the future of Star Wars. Continue Reading One Look at the New Direction of Lucasfilm…

Big Changes for Star Wars Animated Projects

March 11, 2013 at 11:34 am | Posted in Detours, Disney, Entertainment, News, Star Wars, Star Wars News, Television, The Clone Wars | Leave a comment

StarWars.com has just released some big announcements on Star Wars animated projects like The Clone Wars and Detours, as well as ideas for new series.

As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we’ve decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.

Be sure to check out the official site which includes a four minute video with Dave Filoni.

And here’s the news…

George Lucas made an interesting headline this week with his appearance on CBS This Morning announcing that he’s going to start a museum (didn’t we all here Indy yelling “It belongs in a museum!”). You can check out the video here.

In the better late than never category, Chronicle Books had a nice write up on the making of the cover for Vader’s Little Princess. Written by Jeffrey Brown, who also did Vader and Son, Vader’s Little Princess will be out on April 23rd.

In non-Star Wars movie news, Harrison Ford is doing Anchor Man 2 alongside Will Ferrell; Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan are rumored to be in for Justice League; and Iron Man 3 has new trailers and movie posters out.

If you missed out on the Star Wars panel at Emerald City Comic Con (which featured Randy Stradley, Brian Wood, Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman), you can check out the full video of the panel here. Continue Reading Around the Web…

Inside the Ahsoka Finale

March 6, 2013 at 1:24 pm | Posted in News, Star Wars, Star Wars News, Television, The Clone Wars | Leave a comment

Ashley Eckstein posted a very nice behind the scenes look on the Ahsoka finale. On StarWars.com she posted a series of emails she exchanged with Dave Filoni that sheds a lot of light on Ahsoka.

Ashley: Wow, she really is changing a lot. I knew this was coming but I think the change is hitting me now and I’m realizing it’s really moving forward and in a different direction, not just for one episode and then going back. It’s great! The story is fantastic and I am honored to be a part of it. I want to talk to you more about this next week. Why does she walk away again, versus go back?

Dave: Ahsoka walks away because she is conflicted. She is not mad at Anakin, she knows doing this will hurt him, but she hopes he understands. She is frustrated with the Jedi Council, there is a feeling of betrayal. Much of this has to do with Anakin’s training and attachment rubbing off on her. She also leaves because while she believes Barriss was wrong, she cannot deny that there is truth to what Barriss was saying, especially in light of her own recent experiences. She needs perspective.

A poignant ending for a very nice season finale. Is this the End for The Clone Wars?

March 3, 2013 at 5:20 pm | Posted in News, Star Wars News, Television, The Clone Wars | 1 Comment

With the great finale of season five of The Clone Wars, fans are hyped and ready for season six. We’ve heard from interviews by Full of Sith with voice actors Dee Bradley Baker and Tom Kane that there are clone trooper and Yoda episodes. We’ve heard from Sam Witwer via an interview with Rebel Force Radio that there are Darth Maul episodes. But will there be an season six? Is Disney going to pick up the show?

We know Cartoon Network’s contract ended with season five. We won’t hear from Disney until mid March. And according to Rebel Force Radio and numerous credible sources, the future of The Clone Wars is in jeopardy. That’s why Rebel Force Radio has started a letter campaign. The reasoning is sound. If a thousand letters end up on Bob Iger’s desk, chances are, Disney will listen. So help do your part and let Disney know that we want to see Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 6 happen. Just write a polite letter to the following address…

Disney Studios
500 S Buena Vista St
Burbank, CA 91521
Attn: Bob Iger

You can also write a letter to Kathleen Kennedy…

Lucasfilm
P.O. Box 29901
San Francisco, CA 94129-0901
Attn: Kathleen Kennedy

If you need any help with letter templates or additional addresses to reach out to, Rebel Force Radio has you covered. Just check out their Facebook page for more details. They also have a voicemail campaign you can check out (details here). It’s only a stamp and a moment of time. Make sure your voice gets heard.

And here’s today’s news…

Author Aaron Allston has begun work on a new novelette, “Retreads”, which is set in the Strike Force universe (a roleplaying game Aaron worked on in 1998).

Author Kevin J. Anderson did a podcast interview with Bombad Radio. While I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, those guys over there usually do a pretty good job of digging up the Star Wars trivia with the authors so it’ll probably be worth a listen.

Author Christie Golden will be at Anime and Comic Con in Clarcksville/Ft. Campbell, KY this weekend. If any Star Wars fans are in attendance, be sure to ask her about the upcoming Sword of the Jedi series (we’re dying for updates).

Michael A. Stackpole fans can check out the first four chapters of his new book Mysterious Ways on his site for free: Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Three, Chapter Four. (you can find links at the bottom of each page for purchasing the book, and you can check out our review here)

Ahsoka voice actress Ashley Eckstein did an interview with IGN that you can check out here. It covers the upcoming finale of season five of The Clone Wars.

In video game news, Kotaku has an update on Star Wars 1313. According to them, the game was put on hold after the Disney acquisition and may miss a 2013 release.
