You’ll need all of them to get every story, but some journals have more stories than others. Numbers in the parentheses indicate how many exclusive stories each contains.

  • 3 (5)
  • 4 (2)
  • 5 (4)
  • 6 (5)
  • 7 (1, 2 if you don’t have Outbound Flight in paperback)
  • 8 (1)
  • 9 (2)
  • 10 (3)
  • 11 (3)
  • 12 (3)
  • 13 (1)
  • 14 (3)
  • 15 (5)

Star Wars Galaxy

You’ll need: 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12. Each includes on short story not offered elsewhere.

Star Wars Gamer

You’ll need all ten. Some included one story (3, 4, 6, 7 and 9), the others include two.

And for completionists, you’ll also need:

  • Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter 2nd edition released in December 2011, includes two short stories
  • Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D novelization edition released in January 2012
  • The Cestus Deception*, paperback edition
  • Legacy of the Jedi/Secrets of the Jedi omnibus
  • Betrayal, paperback edition or Vader: The Ultimate Guide or Star Wars Magazine UK 61
  • Star Wars Galactic Battleground: Prima’s Official Strategy Guide
  • X-wing, the limited edition game, February 1993
  • Star Wars: TIE Fighter game, July 1994

  • Star By Star*, paperback edition
  • Dark Nest I: The Joiner King*
  • Special 2009 Hyperspace fanclub membership booklet for “Imprint” by Christie Golden.

* short stories included in these books are alternatively available as standalone eBooks.
** one of the short stories is available as a standalone eBook, however the other was offered online for free on StarWars.com before being lost to the web. Wookieepedia does have a backup link for it still.

It’s also worth noting that even IF you collect all the above material, there are still a few short stories out there not covered in The Essential Reader’s Companion, most notably short stories included in the Star Wars Adventure Journals. As with all collections, it always depends on how far you want to take the obsession. The best of luck in your endeavor.

  1. where can i download all the short stories from? Would love to collect them all

  2. There’s no one source for downloading all of the stories. Not all of them are even available digitally, but if you look at the list above, you’ll find documentation of where you can find each story.
